Malloy’s Union Concessions On Cliff’s Edge

Unionized state workers have placed in jeopardy an agreement between Governor Dan Malloy and a collective bargaining coalition to avoid massive state layoffs and possible municipal aid cuts. Votes are being tabulated. Leading the charge against concession ratification is www.votenotoconcessions.com.

  1. In a blow to the Malloy administration, a large bargaining unit known as P-2 has rejected the SEBAC agreement on health and pension benefits, union sources said early Wednesday morning.

The union represents about 3,800 human and social services workers, including employees at major agencies like the Department of Children and Families, Department of Social Services, and the state labor department.

P-2 had been seen by the Malloy administration as a critical voting unit in the deal.

In the highly complicated system that covers about 45,000 unionized state employees, votes are being held by 34 bargaining units in 15 separate unions. Thousands of ballots will be counted Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday as multiple unions will be voting.

Much of the opposition to the deal is being funneled through www .votenotoconcessions.com

The author, who is self-described as a state employee, wrote that the web site was created because “as I looked into it, the more I saw that we were being taken to the cleaners.”

This is the beginning of the end for the smoke and mirrors of the State financial boondoggle. Get ready for increased taxes and decreased service. Seeing how Bridgeport hitched its star to this foolishness wait to you see the cut services and increased taxes. I certainly do not relish this but anyone who can do simple math knew this was coming.

  2. This is a good example of how one person can trigger action. Bridgeport crowned the king and now the King and his men (Ben Barnes at least) tells us we are on our own. Be careful what you wish for Ben and Danny, just look at what one person on his own can do. Paging Fuzzy Wuzzy Bear:

  3. It’s all over the news. The state union concessions package is on the verge of collapse. Even though a few thousand employees have yet to vote, it is not looking good. If the deal falls through, there will be massive layoffs of state employees, cuts in services and aid to the municipalities.

Mayor Finch, where is your plan B? You just guaranteed 700 AFSCME employees they will not be laid off for two years. Some of them are on the City side of the budget. You tied your hands, mayor. If the state deal doesn’t go down, you are screwed. I hope this is the beginning of your downfall.
