It’s August in June. What happened to July? It’s not going anywhere, we’ll get there. I’m among the first residents this week moving into The August at Steelpointe Harbor, resort-style living on the waterfront, a transformational project for Connecticut’s most populous community teeming with amenities and accessible price points under the state’s Build For Connecticut program subsidizing 20 percent of the units marketed to middle income households.
The August is a partnership between Steelpointe Harbor developers Robert Christoph Sr. and Jr. and Midwest-based builder Flaherty & Collins.
For me The August is all about returning to the city of my birth and foundation for my professional career, led by the amenities and access: highway, rail, ferry. I can walk to all the restaurants I enjoy Downtown. Bass Pro Shops and Starbucks across the way at Stratford Avenue and East Main Street, Boca Oyster Bar on campus, with more restaurants and retail on the horizon.
Build For Connecticut provides middle income benefits at market-rate value. Studios start at just under $2,000. Let’s say you’re a couple with a combined $100,000 yearly gross income and seek a one-bedroom unit 800 square feet. For $1,360 each you’ll be into a classy unit, substantially under the market-rate costs.

Well, you say, we can land something for $2,000 a month in Bridgeport. Okay, maybe, but for sure your apartment will not include in-unit washer and dryer, top-shelf appliances, a fitness center, spa with sauna, an outdoor pool with Jacuzzi, gated and controlled community access, social & co-working style café lounge with waterfront views, full size private pickleball court, open-air pizza oven & entertainment space, pet retreat featuring park & spa amenities, concierge trash collection.
Not all apartments have waterfront views. I don’t have one, opting for a balcony with a well-manicured courtyard view. If I want the water I am just steps away, laptop in hand enjoying the view from the work space coffee bar, a particularly inviting vista now that the old power plant across the harbor has been imploded and removed leaving the candy-striped former stack a skyline sentry. (The stack is expected to be demolished as well to make way for a to-be- announced, mixed-use development.)

Some leasing plans waive the first month rent and include one year of free parking. And no gouging for first and last month’s rent so the financial move in won’t set you back. Affordable internet plans range, depending on your needs, from $30 to $50 per month.
Ooh, and now for the really good stuff. I am a resident of the 137th City Council District led by Aidee Nieves and Maria Valle; Antonio Felipe my State House representative; Herron Gaston my state senator.
Living at The August voting in August for governor and judge of probate Democratic primaries.
Hmm…

Congratulations! Let’s hope your welcome to the publicly accessible waterfront is warmer than the one I recieved from the owners during one of my first visits.
