Kaolian’s Aerial Picture Show

Captain Morgan Kaolian will fly into City Lights Gallery with a special one-month exhibit featuring his evening aerial photography starting January 19. From City Lights:

“City In Flight” Friday 2/4, 6-9 p.m. a special presentation taking place during the exhibit of aerial evening photographs by Morgan Kaolian at City Lights, Downtown Bridgeport, 37 Markle Court, Bpt. CT.(203) 334-7748, www.citylightsgallery.org.

On Feb. 4, “City in Flight” a series of short films, and presentations will feature the work and inventions of Gustave Whitehead and Igor Sikorsky. Andy Kosch, an expert on the legacy of Gustave Whitehead will argue that Whitehead’s plane flew before the Kitty Hawk. Kosch is currently rebuilding a full-size replica of the Whitehead plane at the CT Air and Space Center. He will share his knowledge along with a short documentary and have a 4′ model of this flying machine on view.

The evening of food, film and flight will also screen a brief interview of the inventor of the helicopter and namesake of Bpt’s Sikorsky Airport and historical footage of Igor Sikorsky test flying his inventions, as he was both the inventor and the test pilot. This special evening will augment the one-man show of aerial photographs of Bridgeport’s own Morgan Kaolian, once a local household name through his airborne broadcasts from “Flight 600” for WICC radio. Trained at the Whitney School of Art, now known as Paier College of Art, Kaolian has found a way to combine his 2 passions: flying and photography. This exhibit at City Lights will open 1/19 and run through 2/19. An artist reception will take a place on 1/21, Friday from 5:30 -8 p.m. this reception is free and open to the public. Kaolian  has generously offered a special door prize for all those who attend the “City In Flight” evening on 2/4, One attendee will win a free one-hour plane ride with Kaolian, for up to 3 passengers. A $10 suggested donation for “City in Flight,” a mini-fundraiser for City Lights, a nonprofit community based arts organization includes presentation, screening and chili buffet.   1. They should name a street after Capt. Morgan Kaolian. He’s proven himself to be a great friend to Bridgeport and the region. I’ve never heard a negative word used whenever anyone’s spoken of him. I’m sure the exhibit will be a treat.
