Himes: Trump A Dangerous Demagogue Running Racist Campaign

Himes 2016
From May. Himes accepts Democratic endorsement in Bridgeport for another term.

Democrat Hillary Clinton will have plenty of surrogate support framing her Republican presidential opponent Donald Trump as a demagogue. Congressman Jim Himes obliges in this Tuesday night statement:

“Tonight, with another string of victories across the country, Hillary Clinton has secured the Democratic Party nomination for President of the United States. By winning the national popular vote and the most pledged delegates, Secretary Clinton has shown herself to be the person best poised to lead our country and continue the progress we have made over the past 8 years.

“This primary season energized millions of Democratic voters, due in no small part to the efforts of Senator Bernie Sanders. Senator Sanders has been a passionate voice for many who have been traditionally underrepresented in our political process and has made valuable contributions to the national debate on inequality and justice. I am optimistic that we can transfer and maintain that enthusiasm to rally behind Secretary Clinton now that she is the presumptive nominee.

“Our primary focus now must be defeating Donald Trump in the general election. Mr. Trump is a dangerous demagogue running a racist and divisive campaign. The positions he espouses are inconsistent with the values and basic decency that define us as Americans. We must work together, building on our common strengths and resolving our differences, to ensure Donald Trump is resoundingly beaten.

“Hillary Clinton will bring an unprecedented level of competence and experience to the Presidency. With her leadership we will continue to build a stronger, safer, more prosperous nation.”

  1. I find it interesting there are those on OIB who say Donald Day and myself are always bringing up race and they don’t understand why. Last June when Donald Trump announced he was running for President he started playing the race card about Mexicans, then later it was Muslims, then women and now a federal judge who was born in Indiana and there has been no outrage from Republicans and especially their leadership. Trump’s latest comment about a judge who was born in Indiana but Trump said he’s not qualified to judge the lawsuit against Trump’s University because Trump claims he is a Mexican. Paul Ryan the highest ranking elected official said Trump’s statement was racist but he then turned around and said Trump would be better than Hillary Clinton because Clinton wouldn’t help to pass Ryan’s agenda. So Ryan feels it’s better to have racist as the President of the United States than Hillary Clinton. Really, Ryan is saying it’s okay to be a racist at the highest position in America and Don and I are the bad guys. Where is the outrage from the Republicans on the local level, state and national level, in fact where is David Walker on this issue?

    1. None of this is about race. Nationality is NOT RACE. Paul Ryan is too stupid to use the word correctly. Ryan is NOT the highest-ranking elected official. He may be the highest-ranking Republican official, but a congressman does NOT outrank the President.

Despite the mislabeling of Trump’s anti-Mexican(s) sentiment, it is not a racist remark. It is prejudice and/or discrimination based on National Origin. Mexican citizens may be of any race, Hispanic is not a race. In recent history we had the President of Peru who was an Asian (Japanese family origin).

      1. Marshall Marcus, I made this post this morning. Jose, you said, “So building a wall to keep out illegals is racist?” No, it’s un-American to deny someone from coming to America because of their religion.

        0
        1. Not only is it Un-American, it’s unconstitutional. Suspect classifications protected by our civil rights laws (as determined by the Supreme Court and apply to citizens and non-citizens alike) are Race, Religion, National Origin and Alienage.

  2. Hillary Clinton’s resume is quite impressive, suggesting she is eminently qualified to be president. Unfortunately for her, we must vote for a person, not a resume. She is an ethically compromised politician. Everything she says is a collection of carefully worded cliches calculated to appeal to a voting block.
Donald Trump is bombastic and often insulting. When he states a position on addressing the disproportionate amount of crime committed by illegal aliens (known as undocumented immigrants to Democrats) he is accused of being a racist by some. Others see his concerns for security with increasing numbers of Muslim immigrants from Syria as racist. When he expresses a concern for potential bias by a judge he is labeled a racist. Is there a pattern here?
Clinton’s flaws are well-known, but ignored by females, minorities, etc, etc.
Trump has flaws. Can they be ignored? We shall see. Six months to go.

    1. Trump is destroying the Republican Party and its members are just standing by and watching. Hillary Clinton is not my candidate but when Trump claims he doesn’t know David Duke of the KKK and doesn’t denounce him even though David Duke said he supports Trump.
The Sunday uproar started when Trump was asked by Tapper whether he would disavow Duke and other white supremacist groups that are supporting his campaign.

“Just so you understand, I don’t know anything about David Duke, OK?” Trump said.

Trump was pressed three times on whether he’d distance himself from the Ku Klux Klan–but never mentioned the group in his answers.

“I don’t know anything about what you’re even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists,” he said. “So I don’t know. I don’t know–did he endorse me, or what’s going on? Because I know nothing about David Duke; I know nothing about white supremacists.”

Charles Krauthammer: “We’re talking here about facts. It was a racist statement. It’s an undeniable racist statement and it isn’t just a mistake, a tactical mistake. It is something quite revealing and quite scary in a country where you don’t call a fellow a citizen a ‘Mexican’ who was raised, born in Indiana and was appointed by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who called him a hero for the way he stood up to the Mexican cartel. We do not judge people by their ancestry but by their lives.”

    2. Tom White, I am really surprised by your statements. Disproportionate amount of crime committed by illegal aliens/undocumented immigrants??? Where are the facts and the numbers to back up that claim? Muslim immigrants from Syria??? Please do a little bit of in-depth research on the time and efforts on vetting of the few Syrian immigrants who have been allowed to immigrate into the United States. Please provide any actual statements or action by the Trump “University” judge that would show any possible bias. These statements by Donald Trump can be defined by one word, DEMAGOGUERY. As for the flaws in Clinton and Trump, if you can provide the name of one flawless (perfect?) person, please let us know.

        1. Jennifer Buchanan, i think you now live in the idyllic heaven of lily white rural Indiana. Why do you keep on coming back here to taunt us? You support Mike Pence and his efforts to keep Indiana pure and white. I told you. Take a drive up to Gary Indiana and you can see what the white Republicans are doing. Basically, they have said Gary Indiana, go drop dead. We are going to put all our money into Indianopolis. I DARE YOU TO DRIVE UP TO GARY INDIANA. You probably will drive around with your windows shut and doors locked and will probably hide behind the Second Amendment to further protect yourself.

          0
          1. Not supporting Pence. Your ability to deflect when presented with examplesthat do not support your argument is very well crafted I have been to Gary, and like Bridgeport, every elected official is and has been for years a Democrat. And like Bridgeport, an industrial city that no longer has manufacturing and just cannot seem to get its next growth base figured out, and like Bridgeport is very near a major city, Chicago. Indiana is county government, so all the money to Indianapolis is not quite accurate. And in 2008 Obama carried Indiana, not as white Republican as you think. Sorta like me. And I don’t own a gun. Keep digging into Bridgeport politics, I left discovering a lot, and the more I discovered the less I knew. And, you must know we agree on more things than not.

          1. Jennifer, thanks for the link but think about this. Donald Trump is getting support from the KKK but he’s not aware of any white supremacist groups. Jennifer, why hasn’t your governor and your friend Dave Walker not spoken out against Donald Trump’s racist comments? Republicans have a serious problem and they keep making excuses for Trump and they won’t tell him to cut out the bull.

            0
          2. Ron, this is a disturbing election year for many reasons. I think the Republican Party has needed a wake-up call regarding their insane anti-Obama policy, and to oust the religious right wing of the party. Governor Pence supported Cruz, so he’s no help, and a big part of the problem with the party. The party cannot control Trump during this election cycle for sure, it appears he cannot be censured. When I look at the complete Trump statements and news releases, and not just the Internet and news clips, he is less crazy appearing than I originally thought. I doubt very much I will vote for him, I am certainly not voting for Hillary, so I either go Libertarian or sit this one out. I think Walker is focused on the Bridgeport and CT budget issues, his area of expertise. Since neither party has an endorsed candidate yet, perhaps statements are premature.

  3. Hey Ron, do a little research on Killary. She’s a liar and is untrustworthy. That’s for starters. Her kill list goes back to her husband’s Wild Bill days as Governor of Arkansas. You bring up the women issue with Trump how about Hillary empowering Wild Bill as he hid affairs with dozens of women? You bring up KKK with Trump. Do you realize her mentor was the one and only West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd who by the way was a Cyclops in the KKK. Or how about another mentor Margaret Sanger the founder of Planned Parenthood whose goal was to wipe out what she felt were the inferior races that included blacks. Black voters were swindled by Obama and looks like it will happen again with Killary. She won because the Democratic system is rigged. How can a guy like Sanders have a chance if she gets the super delegates. Never Hillary.

        1. Jose, you’ve been listening to that fear-monger and huckster Michael Savage for too long.

There will be many non-sheeple who will vote against Trump.

          0
    1. Jose, Lisa informed you what to do about Hillary Clinton. Like I said, she was not my candidate but she’s the candidate so my choice is easy, do I vote for a liar or do I vote for a liar, a racist and someone who’s “dog whistle politics” is to make America the way he feel it should be, a racist nation following in his footsteps? I think I’ll take Hillary’s lies instead of Trump’s lies and racist ways.

      1. So building a wall to keep out illegals is racist? A ban on Muslims until they are properly vetted is racist? Really so we should have open borders and let people into this country without properly vetting them. How’s that working out in Norway and Germany where women are being raped by refugees by the hundreds. You need to wake up, man.

        0
        1. So Jose Reyes, were you an “immigrant” on the Mayflower? Your statement that “A ban on Muslims until they are properly vetted” is contradictory. And your baseless statements about hundreds of rapes is a perfect example of the statements made by Donald Trump and his followers.

          0
    2. So Jose, until you’re black you aren’t in any position to speak about blacks being swindled by President Obama. That’s black folk’s business and if we don’t mind being swindled by the first black president you shouldn’t either. My suggestion to you is to worry about being swindled by your local Latino politicians who have swindled you every day of your life.

    3. Senator Robert Byrd’s involvement with the KKK was when he was in his 20s and 30s. The NAACP gave him a 100% rating on their issues during the 108th Congress. Margaret Sanger was born September 14, 1879 and died September 6, 1966, you’re talking about something that’s over 50 years ago. Donald Trump made his last racist statement last week. Jose, Google Donald Trump’s father Fred and read about his racist ways.

      1. Ron, once a racist always a racist. Oh I forgot, except if you’re a Democrat. Your girl Hillary is the racist. Doing whatever she has to do to get a vote including being part of the corrupt DNC.

  4. Jose Reyes, you mention Hillary Clinton’s support for Planned Parenthood, well I think you will enjoy this.

    Trump praises Planned Parenthood,

Jose, you said, “So building a wall to keep out illegals is racist?” No, it’s un-American to deny someone from coming to America because of their religion. I guess America shouldn’t allow anyone in if their country has terrorists like Ireland because of The Irish Republican Army (IRA)?

    Trump Bashes Mexico

    1. The IRA is not on the list of terror organizations and the IRA was never ‘at war’ with the US. Germans and Japanese were banned from entering the US at one time. Mexico has an anti-immigration wall on its southern border.

Illegal immigration is bad for the US and people who want to become American citizens. Trump is correct when he says illegal immigrants are criminals. Illegally immigrating is a crime. If you commit the crime of illegally immigrating you are a criminal. Cuba emptied its jails into the US back in the ’60s. Mexico could be doing the same thing.

I think we should have immigration laws similar to Mexico’s. Read about Mexico’s immigration laws then ask why are Mexico’s laws so punitive and Mexico wants ours to be so forgiving. We have a right to secure and protect our borders and Mexicans do have a path to legal entry and citizenship. They should use those paths.

Under Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony.

  5. It just boggles my mind ANYONE can consider Donald Trump has the capabilities to be the President of the United States. I am just left speechless. He appeals to the worst elements in our country. He was able to get the nomination of the Republican Party because the Republican Party gave up any principled policy positions eight years ago and their ONE AND ONLY policy became STOP OBAMA ON EVERYTHING. That is why Trump was able to win the Republican nomination. The Party stands for nothing and was hijacked by Trump’s bluster, rants and raves. I find it all unbelievable.

    0
  6. Frank, I can assure you no black person in America is surprised Trump and his vitriolic, acrimonious and racist rants have captured the hearts and minds of a segment of America. We have seen it over the last eight years or since the election of Barack Obama as president of the United States. We have seen the anti-black movement in America, in the Supreme Court rulings and in our everyday lives.

Having said that, we as a people refuse to believe there’s enough bigoted, narrow-minded, hate-filled people in the country who would elect him as the President of these United States, but we also didn’t think we would see a black president in our lifetimes.

  7. Jose Reyes, would I be a racist if I said you’re a knucklehead? You ought to try to connect with reality before you spout off about Hillary Clinton.

You know what galls me the most? When a wife doesn’t end her marriage and violate her oaths to her husband because he’s been unfaithful and people then blame the wife for empowering the husband. Used to be we admired wives who held their families together despite difficulties.

Oh right, that was probably just the Democrats!

  8. Corruption and racism are alive and well all over this country and this state. Funny thing they have in common is some people become corrupt without realizing it and some people become racist without realizing it. Not everything is about race. But more positions are rooted in racism than people care to admit, or face. They will defend, deflect, rely on statistics, try to use intellect, all in an effort to keep the mirror from telling the truth. Sad, sad, sad.

      1. Jennifer, I must say I’m glad to see some Republicans step up and tell Trump they are not supporting him but then the two highest-elected Republicans are still supporting Trump and Paul Ryan saying Trump’s comment about the judge was racist but he still supports Trump because Trump will help get Ryan’s agenda passed. Are you kidding me, Ryan has no problem with a racist as President or a person who makes racist comments about an American judge who was born in the state you live in. The Republican Party is being destroyed by Trump and they will sit there and watch the Democrats take control of the House, the Senate and the White House.

        0
        1. Pure insanity. Ryan, I support him but not most of what he says. Ryan is most certainly not helping. Considering the two parties have the mandate to support fellow candidates, and the popular vote has given the party leaders candidates they don’t want. Considering the low public opinion of congress and the primary election results, I spend so much time shaking my head in disbelief, I probably have a brain injury.

  9. It’s been said the acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree. Most families of enormous wealth have a dark and sometimes scandalous, even monstrous past. Donald Trump’s clan is no exception to that rule. His grandfather was a pimp and a tax evader, his father a racist who would in the course of his life clash with New York City Police as a member of the Ku Klux Klan. Does anyone wonder why he says and does the things he does?

  10. *** Who gets the OIB vote for President; Trump, Bernie or Hillary? Who would you vote for this coming Nov. 2016? I like Bernie but he’s out now, so it’s Hillary over the thin-skinned con man from NYC; “TRUMP!” ***

    1. Mojo,
I’m with you on this. I voted Sanders in the Primary, but will vote Clinton over Trump. The thought of that hothead with his finger on the nuclear trigger scares the shit out of me.
