Himes To Deliver UB Commencement Address

From the University of Bridgeport:

Ceremonies for the University of Bridgeport (UB) 102nd Commencement will begin at 10.m. Saturday, May 5 at the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, when degrees will be conferred on more than 1,400 members of the Class of 2012.

Congressman Jim Himes, who represents the Fourth District of Connecticut, will deliver the Keynote Address and receive an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.

Barbara James ’70, ’74, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award, and members from the Class of 1962 will be honored as Golden Knights on the 50th anniversary of their graduation.

Separate graduation ceremonies for nearly 800 graduates from the Division of Health Sciences will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, May 13 at the Mertens Theater in the Arnold Bernhard Center.

The Class of 2012 represents 796 undergraduates and 625 graduates. Six out of 10 candidates for degrees are female, and nearly one-fourth–37 percent–are international students.

Constance Vickers, 22, who is the class speaker, said she enrolled at UB because she was “drawn to the diverse community. The experience of being a member of a small global community at UB has been really special.”
