Clyde Ripka plans to open a Downtown grocery store and cafe in May. CT Post photo Autumn Driscoll.
One of the missing pieces to progress Downtown to complement the growing housing base was the lack of a grocery story. Clyde Ripka is scheduled to open a market in mid-May.
From Keila Torres Ocasio, CT Post:
When Matt Norko moved downtown in 2010, he was thrilled that he could walk to the train station to get to his Westport job and his partner could walk to his downtown job.
He just wished picking up fresh fruit or half-and-half for his coffee was as easy. Even buying a gallon of milk was a mile-long venture for downtown residents since Rite Aid closed its Main Street location 18 months ago.

A double-barrel shot of good news for our Downtown Neighborhood. Having lived in City Trust for over five years, the market has been an essential must for all of us. Having the ‘Create It Here’ competition to have the other Arcade storefronts filled with local artists selling their wares is just perfect. Can’t wait! I hope a huge sign will go on top of the entrance so folks will know where the Arcade is and what’s inside.

*** WELCOME TO BPT’s 131st DISTRICT! *** WITH MORE POLICE AND PRIVATE SECURITY PRESENCE IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA AND LESS PANHANDLING AND TRESPASSING IN AND IN FRONT OF PRIVATE AND BUSINESS AREAS, THIS NEIGHBORHOOD SHOULD DO WELL. ***
