Good Luck Breaking Through–Vaccination Seekers Swamp State System

From Nicholas Rondinone, CT Post:

A massive expansion of the state’s COVID-19 vaccine eligibility launched Monday, inundating phone and online registration systems, but state officials said the process will “smooth out.”

With roughly 610,000 people now eligible to enroll, the still-limited supply of vaccines could not keep up with demand, something state officials had cautioned leading up to Monday.

In some cases, people reported the earliest available appointment was mid-April, which runs into the rollout of the next two eligible groups: people age 45 to 54 on March 22 and those age 35 to 44 on April 12.

“With today being the first day of enrollment for this group of more than 600,000 eligible residents and school staff, we know that demand will significantly outweigh supply, similar to the first two phases,” said Max Reiss, spokesman for Gov. Ned Lamont.

  1. Don’t use the state VAMS system. It sucks. Private business does a better job. Just came from getting my wife her first vaccination at Walgreens and her second is scheduled for March 29. I had my fisrt at Walgreens on Feb 12 and second will be March 12.

The Walgreen’s website is showing appointment availability for later this week in the Bridgeport/Monroe area (State Senate D22).

  2. Great points by Jim Jimfox and Marshall, that question keeps coming up about a mobile van to do an outreach for those who can’t get out and without a doubt Walgreens’ system is easier and faster to get an appointment but if you don’t know how to register online what do they do Joe Ganim? Why is it that during election time Joe Ganim is atevery black church looking for their vote but nothing it’s a life and death issue with COVID-19 he can’t find a way to get the Black church involve with vaccinations.

  3. Jimfox,
Residents of Bridgeport who are homebound can Call Senior Center at 203-579-7993 and ask for Marie Heller she is making appointments for home bond seniors.

I haven’t seen that info published, BUT Council Member Jeanette Herron put up a video last week on her personal FB page of her mother receiving the vaccination in her home. Jeanette had the city worker give out the phone number to call in order to book an in home vaccination.

Nice it exists, not so nice that the politically connected get served first

  4. Marshal, my daughter was one of the first to get her mother vaccinated through Senior Center thanks to Maria Heller. Oh by the way my daughter has NO Political Connections what so ever.

  5. There’s a Maria J Heller listed on a Bridgeport 2016 DTC filing. Lives in Shelton. If it’s the same she was married to the IT Director.
    Hmmmmm…….
