  1. I can’t help but notice no one dared to make a comment on this one. Just look at all those bad-ass faces. Do they look like they’re playing around? I wouldn’t have dared say anything either.

  2. Joel,
Thank you for your advice. Tyisha and I met many folks in your neighborhood as well as the diverse other neighborhoods that comprise the 130th. I think it is safe to say the results, such as they were, with us receiving fewer votes in the General Election than in the Democratic Primary were a surprise. But from losses of all kinds, learning is possible and we are about that.

There was never any word from the people we spoke with when knocking on doors that our branded Watchdog was unnecessary to improving City governance. Perhaps Line A was too simple an act. Perhaps the B Line with Councilman Torres running for Mayor and Council was too confusing. Perhaps our placement in 10 E and 10 F was off-putting to ballot readers. Perhaps the 130th ground mission at Aquaculture with a City employee with a suburban address operating with impunity within the 75 foot border area all day, and flashing a money wad declaring this is the “power” of election day and counting on getting favored treatment from poll management. And more that will be discovered, but we lost big time when you figure Unaffiliated and Republican votes gave us no net gain and we actually lost votes from the Democratic primary.
Lots of ideas for going forward, but it will have to be outside the City Council railing. It will be interesting to discover what City numbers, operating, capital and grants budgets look like for year-end June 2015. It will be more interesting to see account activity in the 2016 budget year when the dust settles. Most interesting I guess is to see whether, as part of his love for the City and its people and his personal journey of redemption, the city will see meaningful movement towards OPEN, ACCOUNTABLE, TRANSPARENT and HONEST process and practice. It is up to the elected leader, but will it happen? Time will tell.
