Foster Urges State To Monitor Primary

Democratic mayoral candidate Mary-Jane Foster has asked Secretary of the State Denise Merrill to authorize election observers for primary day. SOTS is expected to issue a response regarding the role it will play on Thursday. From Foster:

Foster Requests Monitors for All 23 Polling Places

Democratic candidate for mayor Mary-Jane Foster filed a request with the Secretary of the State Denise Merrill for election observers at all 23 polling places for the September 27 Democratic primary. The request was copied to the Chief State’s Attorney. Citing Bridgeport’s history of troubling elections, including last November’s ballot shortage, Foster is taking every possible precaution to ensure the integrity of the election.

“I understand this is an extraordinary request, but given recent history it is necessary under all the circumstances,” explained Foster in her letter to Merrill.

“It is essential that the voting public have confidence that this will be a fair election, free of any potential Election Day violations,” stated Foster. “Every vote matters and we intend to do everything in our power to make sure that anyone contemplating fraudulent activities knows that impartial observers will be watching and taking action on any and all complaints.

“Because of Mayor Finch and the Registrar’s actions, it was a battle to get my name on the ballot. It’s important that we summon every resource available to us to make sure that the voters have a choice and that their voices are heard on Tuesday.”

  1. There are so many people who still do not know September 27 is the primary. Talked a a good friend of mine a few minutes ago asked are you voting this Tuesday? His reply was he did not know there was an election on the 27th.

  2. Foster needs to get out all the supporters she has and people who are not happy with the way Bridgeport is going. Finch would have beat Caruso by more if it were not raining on primary day four years ago. Let’s hope Foster gets out the vote that would equal a victory. It is crunch time, Vote Foster, vote all of row b!!! Good luck to Jim Fox and tc on the 27th. I voted for these two guys because I believe they will do good for Bridgeport. Foster needs a big win in Black Rock/Wilbur Cross and Park City Magnet to offset Marin and the East Side vote for Finch. I have seen some Finch signs popping up all over Black Rock, smh.

  3. Foster has a lot of supporters. There are many many people who voted for Chris Caruso four years ago, voted against the machine. Caruso lost by 270 votes. That is not a wide margin. It’s not razor thin, either. The turnout is going to be bigger than past mayoral primaries. Another thing to think about is there are too many people watching, including the SEEC, the State’s Attorney’s office, and most likely the FBI and the U.S. Attorney. Mario Testa would be a fool to attempt manipulation of absentee ballots. He already tried that once and was caught. (Ezequiel Santiago is not an agent for change.)

  4. Kid, are you really sure the SEEC, State Attorney, FBI and so forth are watching this primary? There is no proof of that. One would hope it’s the case, but what proof is there Bridgeport is on any of their radars?
