Ethan Book, once again a Republican candidate for State Representative in the 128th District, for years now has been an outsider in the city’s beleaguered GOP politics. He shares the latest on his effort to challenge the party establishment that has eschewed support to face Democratic incumbent Chris Rosario.
MORE SHENANIGANS WITH THE BRIDGEPORT REPUBLICAN TOWN COMMITTEE
The BRTC nominating meeting apparently took place last night (May 20). There were problems.
There was not published public legal notice of it (possibly a violation of State Election Law). There is not a policy of the RTC making public the names, addresses and contact information of its members, a hinderance to public service. And even where such contact information was available to some constituents, the members on occasion would not answer calls. One member was even reportedly irate and rude when she was contacted by a very kindly mature Jamaican woman. She told the woman to never call her again. Also, the meeting was not open to the public, a violation of to GOP State Central Rules. The only non-member guests were specially invited by the insider leaders (a glaring 14th Amendment Constitutional violation, in fact unlawful discrimination). Contrary to usual due process and equal opportunity principles and prior practices, I as a declared Republican candidate was not allowed to be present or give a candidate statement.
Since the meeting, despite multiple communications to various of the leaders and members, I have not yet directly been advised of the results. By late morning today, I inferred the results from the behavior of the players. Thus, we can assume that the late emerging party insider Sleepy Joe Borges was nominated to be the 128th District candidate.
I had been getting incomplete and confusing information from Linda Grace, the Republican Registrar of Voters, regarding obtaining the application for primary petition forms. Nonetheless, through the SOTS website, we obtained the form and at 1:43 pm this afternoon, I slipped the completed form under the door of the City ROV office. Therefore, we’re on track to qualify for the September primary (assuming that the ROV has the petition forms ready for pick-up tomorrow; according to a recent message from the ROV, it’s looking promising.
Some might look at this and say I must be doing something wrong. However, in a veritable Tammany Hall type of situation, this is happening because I’m doing something RIGHT!
As I see it, if I wasn’t a strong, viable and formidable candidate, they would not be doing this!
We’ve only just begun! Stay tuned!

The primary is in August.
Picky, picky, picky.
The Republican primary is whenever Ethan Book says it is. He’s the only Republican primarying
True transparency. He is like an open Book.
Pricky, pricky, pricky.
See you in September!
Ethan Book likes running into walls, even if he wins he’s still a loser because he’s apart of the Republican Party that has absolutely NO power or influence in Bridgeport.
Quit?
Give up?
Let the fire burn itself put?
As long as he keeps trying, Ethan Book isn’t a loser.
Besides, what’s wrong with being minority in Bridgeport?
Quit?
Give up?
Let the fire burn itself out?
As long as he keeps trying, Ethan Book isn’t a loser.
Besides, what’s wrong with being a minority in Bridgeport?
The loyal opposition, just another globalist!
Why would Ethan Book expect the Republican Registrar of Voters to have the petition forms ready tomorrow?
Memorial Day is a LEGAL HOLIDAY. I would expect City Hall to be locked up tightly.
Ron, stay tuned!
Marshall, the ROV had the forms ready on Friday. We already have half the signatures necessary to qualify for the August 11th Primary. Fundraising is going very well. We’re well on track to win the primary over Sleepy Joe Borges and then to win the November election over the Camera-Hugger Chris Rosario!
And Ron, my campaign manager did an electronic popularity poll showing me 38 points above the Stuffed-Shirt Camera-Hugger Chris Rosario! In politics, there’s always a tipping point. I like the saying of MLK; “The arc of the universe bends toward justice.”
Ethan Book, if you do a survey of your voting district you will find a very strong connection of those voters have not and will not vote for a Republican, plus they have no reason to vote for a Republican because as a Party they have not seen the Republican Party at the local, state and federal level support their issues. They might like a individual like yourself but they don’t see how one Republican can change anything. Ethan I’ve suggested to you on OIB a number of times to become a Democrat and run for a spot on the DTC member in his district because there are 9 members in each district and you would have a better chance to influence voters and get elected as a DTC member. Ethan, it doesn’t matter if the State Rep. or the two council members in your district are the worse those voters are not going to put into office a Republican. Your President has shown us why we could not vote for a Republican,
Ron, thank you for your thoughtful comments. Unlike some (i.e., Joe Ganim, Michelle Lyons and and Lydia Martinez), I cannot switch parties just to win an election. There are too many differences in some basic party policies. My positions of conservativeness in fiscal matters, adherence to the Constitution and conservativeness on social issues are inconsistent with the broad deep practices of the Democrat Party. In fact, it is for too many opportunistic turncoats like the three mentioned above that it has become harder for the rest of us us GOP’ers.
Also, I’ve been campaigning and fundraising for nearly a month. As I approach people of the 128th asking to contribute a minimum $5 so I can qualify for the State campaign finance program, I get two major responses. The first contribute without any questions of party (I give them a flyer so they can read about it). The second group asks what brand I am. When I say Republican, they say “Here’s $5. Give me the form”. Then there’s the third minor group, a rather small %, that says no because they’re Dem. Even this morning, on the East Side a Jamaican man came forward to help us cut sneakers from telephone lines. He and all his family are Repub, only Repub.
Also, I see the attitudes within the RTC changing. While the overall results of the Wednesday meeting were not favorable, there’s more beyond the oversight that is cooking. There was a change of leadership in March. I sense that over time, that will work for the better of the party and the community. There are a also more within the party who are thinking deeper. We don’t need a majority to flip the District. Since 2016, largely for voter registrations that I’ve brought in, the D to R voter ratio has declined from 19.8 to 14.8, this while the overall D to R voter ratio in Bpt has declined from 11.1 to 10.6. We are not far from the 8 to 1 ratio found in Ansonia where Mayor Cassetti (R) consistently wins. Despite my occasional rhetoric, some of which I believe is necessary, I am working to build bridges and develop unity within the party. While I don’t absolve or condone the kinds of issues that I’ve publicly raised such as of material defects of the Wednesday convention, I must acknowledge that I have contributed to some of the internal problems due to my zeal (which I’m willing to discuss more), my impatience and my style.
Look also at the WWII Battle of Britain against Nazi Germany. Look at Isreal and the Six-Day War. Look at the Biblical record of Gideon. Look at David and Goliath. S—-, with a 14.8 to 1 ratio, we have much more going for us than any of these examples.
Also, we must figure the factor of my new campaign manager. Joel Estrada is a 14 y/o genius who also is a digital wiz. He’s been doing GREAT.
Then there’s one more important factor; the Empty Suit, Camera-Hugger Chris Rosario. Look at him and his voting record and his silence with what Lamont has been getting away with his secret pandemic reopening panel. MAN, this stuff is serious.
People in the district know me and like me.
With all the above, this election is mine to lose.

Ethan, I know that people like you, I’ve seen and heard you speak at a few black churches and it wasn’t during election time and you would stay for the whole service and you seem very comfortable in those settings. Ethan, your own words make my point when you said, “My positions of conservativeness in fiscal matters, adherence to the Constitution and conservativeness on social issues are inconsistent with the broad deep practices of the Democrat Party.” With that said, Ethan you are fighting in the wrong area, instead you need to take your to a Republican town where there are those who share your positions. The (Nelson) Rockefeller section of the Republican Party no loner exist, people like Jacob Javits, Chuck Percy, George Romney and John Lindsay political viewpoints are no longer in the Republican Party.
By the way Ethan, Nelson Rockefeller, Jacob Javits, Chuck Percy, George Romney and John Lindsay were able get a large number of black, Hispanic and women voters to support their positions and to turnout to vote for them.
What Big E has done for cable TV goes without saying, my reception has been phenomenal ever since he removed those few hundred AIR JORDAN sneakers from the city cable grid, keep up the good work Ethan!
PS. Ethan, would you happen to have a 9.5 ( A J ) Fire Red in Mens?
Jim, what people don’t understand is that the sneakers thing can be a deterrent from investors who might want to come into the community to invest and creat jobs!
I don’t remember a men’s fire red 9.5 (AJ). How about a size 14 men’s black boots or a size one blue child’s?
Ethan, that’s the size one blue child’s Rosario wears!
Jim, so now he’s Twinkle Toes also ?
Ron, I remember you saying awhile back that you had seen me attending Black churches and that you observed me being comfortable in those settings. I’m going to guess one of those churches was Cathedral of Praise. Here, I’m going to respond briefly to points you raise. I believe in prior OIB posts, we discussed your comments briefly then I said it might be good for us to meet for coffee. I’ll go to brief comments here then suggest again that we meet.
You react to three key points of a Republican platform; fiscal conservativeness, adherence to the constitution and social conservativeness.
Fiscal conservativeness. To me that means you don’t spend more than you take in. That’s GOOD! There alternative is borrowing more or printing more money. BAD! Doesn’t work over time. Over time, our children and grandchildren end up paying for what we got.
I gave good support for this point last year during the Mayoral candidates’ debate at the Klein Memorial. I referred to a major difference between Democrat elected officials and Republican officials. When Dem officials hear an expression of public want, they tend to reach out to satisfy that request without well ascertaining that the want is a part of the government’s responsibility and whether the want is really a need. In contrast, when a Repub official receives an expression of need from constituents, that official will more often review to see if the need is within the scope of the government’s responsibility and also to determine that the expression is truely a need as opposed to merely a want or convenience. In other words, the Dem officials don’t well determine the proper role of government, that it is truely they don’t really give a hoot because what they really want is to win votes with the public’s money.
In cities, what you get over time with the Dems is urban decline. With Repubs, what you get over time is development.
With respect to adherence to the constitution, there should be no issue there. The constitution mandates adherence. That was voted upon in 1791 and has only been altered by various amendments. Are you suggesting that we not abide by the Constitution?
Regarding social issues, we could start by discussing the abortion policy (which some call choice) versus the pro-life/anti-abortion platform. I’m open to having a discussion on that but for us here, it might be better to do it through an article dedicated to the subject or that we meet to discuss.
I hope you’ve had a reasonably good week-end!
P.S. Ron, one point which may facilitate our discussion is that I have long and consistently promoted fixing our broken judicial systems!
Ethan, I respect your point of view but they are not my view point but that’s ok and I would bet they are not views of your district. The motto for the Republican Party during election are the 3G, God, Guns and Gays. No
Good morning, Ron,
I’m glad we can have this discussion. On your presumed three points of the Republican platform, you miss the big overview; individual freedom and personal liberty. You are correct that God is a part of the R platform. That’s the way our Founding Fathers intended (See Original Intent by David Barton.). You are correct that the 2nd Amendment is part of the R platform. That’s the way the Founding Fathers intended. On gays, that is not a focal part of the Republican Platform. That may be part of the policy positions of some. It is not a focal point of mine. That said, I don’t like the gay lifestyle. I believe it is wrong. However I’m tolerant. I’ve had gay friends to whom I’ve said, “I don’t like the gay lifestyle. I don’t agree with it. But when I look at you, I see a friend and a child of God.” There are several gay public officials that are good friends and with whom also as Dems there is mutual respect and we work together well.
I’m surprised you didn’t say anything about the abortion v. pro-life positions. That’s the issue to which I referred when I said it would take more time to discuss. I think I can do that in a shorter version if you’re interested!
BELIEVE IN BRIDGEPORT 👍🚀🇺🇸🙏
Ethan, the Republican Party believes in saving the life of the unborn child in an effort to save a life but they believe in taking a life with Capital punishment of the death penalty. The Republican Party wants to save the unborn baby but after the child is born they don’t want to feed the child and provide good health care. This pandemic has pulled the mask off of America’s major flaws showing the breakdown in so many issues like the need for health care for every citizens, the of a decent job for one to work to provide for their family the same way that America takes good care big business and big banks, these are just a few issues.
Ron, you’re not listening to what I’ve said. Some of what you refer to is addressed in what I said above (re: judicial reform). Some of it is you pivoting. I’m not running down every rabbit hole that you point to. Looks like we’ll continue our conversation on the next round!
Ethan, you said, ” I’m not running down every rabbit hole that you point to,” really. Where can you get this much free exposure here on OIB than you can get anywhere else, those who are asking you questions helps to get your viewpoints out to the public.
In United States v. Cruikshank (1876), the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that, “The right to bear arms is not granted by the Constitution; neither is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence” and limited the applicability of the Second Amendment to the federal government.
Don, you notice that Ethan viewpoints are not the main issues in which his district are really concerned about, they are Republican talking points.
Several of the biggest issues that those of this community are interested in are taxes, economy and jobs. The majority with whom I’ve talked also like the focus on God!
Ethan, you said, “Several of the biggest issues that those of this community are interested in are taxes, economy and jobs,” Ethan all elected officials have those same concerns and I’m sure that Democratic incumbent Chris Rosario has the same concerns plus the majority with whom Chris Rosario talked to also like the focus on God!
Ron, you’re jumping back and forth. You earlier say that I’m not raising the issues that the community wants then you say that Ganim are raising the same issues as economy, taxes, jobs and God. But their records are not consistent with their words and they don’t talk about the God factor like I do. Also, please see what I just posted at Facebook, “IS BRIDGEPORT SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE WALTER M. SPADAR A POLITICAL ANIMAL”. Neither of them have reasonably acted to fix our broken judicial system!
Ethan, I’m not on Facebook and for the God factor I don’t see the leader of your Party, the Republican Party, President 45 NEVER speaks about God.
Donald, the Cruikshank decision is one that I find strange. The court threw out the murder convictions of some white men who killed 100 black in a massacre. The despite the 14th Amendment which was thought to guarantee the full Bill of Rights to be applied to state and local governments, the court took the view that it did not. The issue was revisited and clarified in Everson v Board of Education (1947).
