Finch Declares “Small Business Saturday”

From Mayor Finch:

Mayor Bill Finch today proclaimed Saturday, November 24 as “Small Business Saturday” in the City of Bridgeport, encouraging residents to support local small businesses during the holiday season.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our country and the glue that holds communities together,” said Mayor Finch. “Spending some of your holiday shopping dollars at a Bridgeport small business this Saturday and throughout the season will help give a boost to our local economy. There are great small businesses offering unique items in every neighborhood of our City.”

Created by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday is a campaign aimed at helping independent small businesses compete with big box stores and chains on the Saturday in between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Last year, an estimated 103 million Americans shopped at independently owned businesses during last year’s Small Business Saturday.

  1. *** Let’s proclaim every day in Bpt as whatever you want it to be day, no? Buy downtown day, go to the park day, pay your taxes day, give up your voting rights day, march against violence day, raise the parking meter rate day, etc. What’s next? ***

  2. How about Telling Mayor Finch to Resign Day because he has done nothing to bring any businesses to town except for low-paying retail. How about Let’s Do Something About the Violence Day.

  3. How about the Mayor selling surplus City vehicles, selling City Hall Annex and McLevy Hall, the Bathhouse at Seaside. All could be used as small business incubators.

  4. How about Mayor Finch firing his entire public relations staff? We have people getting killed almost every week yet he can find money to pay Elaine Ficarra five figures for doing nothing.

  5. *** You’re far too negative there, BlackRockGuy! Ms. Ficarra (who by the way loves “godiva” chocolates) is responsible for spreading the city government news, “good or bad.” So she has to sound upbeat and positive like any loyal city employee to keep her job intact especially when she messes up from time to time, no? All the yes staff who laugh at the Mayor’s jokes and nod in agreement with most of his thoughts concerning Bpt are only doing their pinche political jobs! In this economy seeing is not necessarily believing anymore which leaves you with not always saying or doing the right thing. However, it is what it is ’til the voters of Zombieland make better choices. ***
