  1. Excellent! Nothing more to say other than Steelpointe, Steelpointe, Steelpointe.

Sweet and Happy New Years to all my OIB adversaries and friends.

Personally, I want to thank all of you for motivating me to walk the entire city. Thank you for making me determined to fight for the future of Bridgeport and support Mayor Finch and his ticket.

I forgive all those who attempted to embarrass and humiliate me and although I am a sensitive guy, I realize this is politics and on September 17th I expect all those who believe in this city will come together and support Mayor Finch!

For those who cannot be civil, I will accept, not offer my hand. As I learned in politics a very long time ago, you cannot please all the people all the time. It just is not possible and not worth the energy trying.

Lennie Grimaldi, thank you for allowing me to get on my soap box. I appreciate your blog and of course wish you continued success!

    1. Stevie, embarrass and humiliate you, wait ’til Wednesday night!

Even if you never appear on this blog again! After the 16th, the Campfire Girls will be singing your demise for decades, right up there with Tony Musto and Bill Finch!

    2. Problem being Steve, both the Governor and Senator know Finch is a LIAR, as does most anyone who has dealt with him or Wood. Neither one of them look too happy.

      1. Hector Diaz, I respect your negative Finch comment but if Mayor Finch is a liar, how in hell do you describe your candidate, Joseph Ganim to any potential voter? Liar? You are kidding me, right?

  2. The Democratic primary is in two days. Historically the Democratic primary in Bridgeport has decided the mayoral election held two months later. This year’s primary is not going to be a bellwether event. There are too many names on the general ballot, for one thing. Neither of the two front-runners has an impressive resume.

Bill Finch was endorsed (for the primary, not the general election) by the editorial board of the Connecticut Post. Michael Daly, et al., cited the progress that has been made under Finch, from finally breaking ground at Steel Point to building new schools, etc. (Mr. Finch was also endorsed by Richard Blumenthal, Dannel Malloy, a couple of corrupt labor unions and the mayor of Providence, Rhode Island.) His flaws are just as well known; in some ways his character deficiencies outweigh his accomplishments.

As a man, Bill Finch has shown an appalling lack of self-control. His anger management issues are well known. His hostility toward the University of Bridgeport is a good example. The reason for this hostility most likely stems from the fact his employment there was terminated because he rarely showed up for work and when he did he didn’t do much work. An incident, noted by the Connecticut Post’s rather tepid endorsement, is also troubling: Mr. Finch, angered that a City Council vote did not produce the desired result, physically assaulted a Council member.

Mr. Finch has underfunded the Bridgeport public school system, rated the worst in the state of Connecticut. With a dropout rate of 48% it’s not difficult to see why. (The mayor himself has shown a lack of faith in Bridgeport’s public education system by enrolling his children in charter schools.)

For a chief executive who has boasted his administration is transparent, Mr. Finch has shown an appalling disregard for the people of the city of Bridgeport’s right to know what’s going on in their town. Withholding police reports, in violation of FOI and public records laws, is Bill Finch’s way of thumbing his nose at the news media.

His claims “Bridgeport is the safest it has been in 40 years” is just so much horseshit. The police department’s staffing levels have fallen so precipitously, public safety is being compromised. The gun buyback program, sold as an effective way to take firearms off the streets, has not had any effect on the level of gun violence. The fact of the matter is there have been eight reported shootings since the last round of weapons purchases, one of them fatal. Who is the mayor trying to kid?

The Finch administration’s antipathy toward the poor, the welfare class, and minorities is plain to see. The “boot and tow” program is a case in point. Intended to collect outstanding automobile taxes, the program reaps little if any revenue for the city’s coffers. Instead, poor, mostly black drivers are being punished for owing as little as $100, their vehicles booted, towed and sold at auction or for spare parts. When confronted about the inequities of this program, Mr. Finch responded “Those people should learn to pay their taxes.” (The only person to have benefited from the “boot and tow” program was Charles Valentino, a former state marshal who was arrested last June and charged with a total of 39 counts of forgery, fraud and criminal impersonation.)

This is the man endorsed–for the Democratic primary, not the general election–by the Connecticut Post.

  3. Dannel looks scared to death and he should be for endorsing this thief. Next on my to-do list is to send Dannel and Denise Merrill packing.
They should be ashamed of the role the two of them are playing in the Absentee Ballot fraud that is tainting this election.

    1. So right, Bubba. I doubt Malloy will be a third-term Gov, Denise Merrill is toast, and Blumenthal, he looks like he’s been embalmed but doesn’t realized it.

  4. Malloy, Blumenthal, Murphy and Himes, I will not vote or ask others to vote for them no matter what position they decide to run for in the future and it’s not based on their support for Bill Finch but instead because of the terrible job they’re doing as elected officials for Connecticut and their do-nothing policy for Bridgeport.

  5. MALLOY:
The one who stuck all of us with THE BIGGEST TAX INCREASE IN STATE HISTORY WHEN FIRST ELECTED?

The same one who stuck all of us with THE SECOND BIGGEST TAX INCREASE IN STATE HISTORY WHEN RE-ELECTED?

MALLOY: MAL HOY, MAÑANA Y SIEMPRE.

  6. To Bill Finch supporters–is this the same Dick Blumenthal who lied several times about his “combat” experiences in Vietnam? Who disgraced the Marine Corps he so proudly wraps around himself by his blatant lies? I guess these two congenital liars–Finch and Blumenthal–deserve each other.

  7. Suburbanite-dominated unions and wealthy politicians from exclusive towns don’t play well in poor cities like Bridgeport. We know these unions and politicians only seek to feed off us, parasitically.

Bridgeport voters will send them all packing on Wednesday. We don’t appreciate carpetbaggers such as these.

Recall how “Greenwich Dick” shafted Bridgeport during our bankruptcy trauma when he was Attorney General.

Recall how Dan Malloy lobbied against development in Bridgeport when he was mayor of Stamford (ditto as Governor–“Let them eat Bass (Pro).”

And the wonderful unions. They lobby for projects that burden Bridgeport taxpayers and they exclude us from their hiring process for these projects.

GREAT ENDORSEMENTS! (For someone leaving City Hall in a few weeks!)

    1. I think the two Finch pieces delivered today had a huge impact based on conversations I have had. I actually had to stop off at Maria Pereira’s today that’s the truth and I was there when she got her mail. The expression on her face was priceless and the Hooker School candidates, Melanie Jackson and James Morton made her foam at the mouth. I had not seen that piece and everyone knows Melanie is being honored as I am typing this and I am very proud of her. Personally, I believe she should have shared her amazing news with her constituents and let the Mayor brag about her accomplishment. I think that was a missed opportunity but totally believe the Hooker school area will be very lucky to have Melanie Jackson and James Morton, two seasoned and experienced individuals, to represent them!!! Good luck!

  8. Kid: I think you meant to use the word “unrepentant.” I don’t believe oe is unrepentant, and I do believe he will win on Wednesday. Very few people in Bridgeport, or anywhere else, are good candidates for sainthood, and most convicted felons/criminals (with certain exceptions, such as Nazi war criminals, Charlie Manson, and those of similar, murdering/violent ilk) merit a measure of forgiveness.

Kid, you seem to perceive Joe Ganim as the equivalent of a war criminal. He is not. He is not a violent man and he has a reputation among friends and acquaintances as being gracious and generous. You seem to have no appreciation of the history in which his mayoralty occurred, nor do you seem to have any appreciation of what his weaknesses cost him.

Have you ever been on the wrong side of the law? Maybe that’s not a fair question, but your indignation and self-righteousness would seem to indicate an answer should be given, either way. (Of course, I respect your right to avoid an answer.)

Furthermore Kid, you don’t seem to have any real clue as from whence the power flows in our neck of the woods and of Bridgeport’s pecking order/order on the food chain in these parts. (Are you originally from Bridgeport? Were you here during the first Ganim Administration?) We all know sewage flows downhill, and much of Bridgeport lies in various micro-floodplains, literally and figuratively downhill from literal and figurative sewage exporters, such as Trumbull.

Maybe you cannot countenance a second chance for Joe Ganim, but at least use your considerable powers of analysis, and your research skills and appreciation for history to create an accurate personal perception of the forces behind Bridgeport’s failure to thrive. You have observed and noted only the symptoms of Bridgeport’s political/socioeconomic pathology. You haven’t even begun to uncover/perceive the etiology. Do some homework. If you do, I’m sure you’ll begin to see the full picture. I have hope for you, but not for Quentin, BOE SPY or Steve. Their minds are closed and stuck in an infinite thought loop. (But who knows? They might even have their own epiphanies someday.)

Only flexible, creative thinking by Bridgeport’s citizenry and leadership, as well as concern for each other’s well-being, will allow us to make our way to the future. And we will have to fight to redeem our future, but it must not be among ourselves.

    1. Concern for each other’s well being is something we all can probably agree with. Treat others the way you wish to be treated. While I may wish good things for those who have broken my trust by taking that which they have not earned, I most certainly will have strong boundaries and locked doors in place to allow myself to live in peace, which I expect from those who’s trust I have broken. While I understand your argument of the Gold Coast wanting to keep urban cities powerless, I also believe we are equally responsible for our own situation. Simply blaming others for our lot in life is, in my experience, self-defeating.

      1. I do not blame others for my predicament. I do hold elected officials accountable for their actions and inactions. In the rush to build Steel Point, to build a new high school on contaminated land and spruce up Newfield Park, the socioeconomic ills of our town have been neglected. I’m not blaming Joe Ganim or Bill Finch for problems that have existed for decades. But it is justifiable to blame them for not doing anything about the problems.

Bill Finch would prefer to ignore the welfare classes in the mistaken belief they will magically disappear. Joe Ganim is cynically exploiting the black community in the hope he might be able to get his old job back. A panel of three Superior Court judges found Joseph P. Ganim does not possess the character and moral fitness to practice law. If he is morally unfit to practice law, how is it he possesses the character and moral fitness to hold the highest public office in Connecticut’s largest city? Many of the problems of the past 15 years are the result of his lack of character and moral fitness.

He served his time, completed the terms of his probation. As far as the federal judicial system is concerned, Joe Ganim has completed his penitence. He still has a felony record though. The criminal justice system “corrected” him but it still has a long memory.

    1. Pardon me for not seeing things another way. I have never said Joe Ganim was violent. I did say he is a crook. If he had accepted bribes in order to feed offshore bank accounts and purchase a luxury home in Dade County, Florida, then maybe I’d see it as just plain garden-variety greed. But that wasn’t the case. He wasn’t interested in money, just a cushy lifestyle on the taxpayers’ dime. Lennie Grimaldi and Paul Pinto made more jing from the corruption; Joe Ganim just wanted to be treated as if his shit didn’t stink. French wine? Custom tailored shirts? The Four Seasons Hotel? Morton’s Steak House? Get the fuck out of here. His avarice cost the people of the city of Bridgeport in money, lawsuits, delayed construction projects and the city’s reputation. Your boy wants to be mayor again? That’s the biggest joke on the East Coast. People in Iowa and Illinois only know about Bridgeport CT because a crooked mayor is seeking to reclaim the office after serving prison time for corruption.

I’m not keen on Bill Finch. He’s a pathological liar with anger management and control issues. At least he doesn’t have a felony rap sheet.

  9. This Just In!

The Resurrection of Joseph P. Ganim will not be taking place in the Park City, Bridgeport Connecticut.

Felons United will not see Ganim in Paradise. He will not receive the keys to the kingdom. His commercial depicting Bridgeport under the Finch administration has absolutely poisoned every attempt to improve the city’s image.
His shit does stink and he doesn’t walk on water. If he could turn water into wine he wouldn’t have been bribed with very expensive French wines. The very people Ganim has in his back pocket have never been exposed to the fine life Ganim was born into. Or the greed that sent him to prison with a serious rap sheet.

The creepy FBI agent was not a guardian angel but a retired guy who was paid off and promised a cushy job by Ganim. This of course is not news to anyone, is it? Just a very creepy alliance.
