Now the senior member of the Board of Education, Joe Sokolovic, a long opponent of the local Democratic political hierarchy, is seeking the party endorsement for another four-year term and if he does not achieve it pledges to run a citywide primary.
He issued the letter below ( the easy way, or the hard way) to the 90-member Democratic Town Committee that will convene July 22 to endorse candidates for school board. Sokolovic is a member of the committee in the North End 134th District.
During his time on the board Sokolovic has deftly toggled his election wins via minor-party representation required by state law, either as a Republican or in his current status, the Connecticut Working Families Party. Willie Medina, two years ago, won a school board seat with the backing of the The Bridgeport Independent Party.
Five of nine school board seats are in play this cycle, three Dems and two for minor parties.
So if Sokolovic fails to receive the endorsement and/or falls short in a primary challenge, he’ll likely have Plan B in place for the general election on a minor party line.
Two years ago Sokolovic backed John Gomes for mayor who appears headed for another run in 2027.

Addendum from Joe-So.
Missed part of the letter, the flip side containing a request for DTC donations. I included a link to my Anedot https://secure.anedot.com/sokol4bpt-364ff2a8-3549-49d8-8ca0-2842af0233be/donate
And a phone number (718) 650-0718 for those wanting to make a donation by cash (up to $100) or check up to $250. I will pick up.

JoSo, you’re contradicting yourself here. OIB is never biased, always fair. You have my full endorsement and urge the voters do all they can to see you return. I bet Lennie will not sensor this post.
“I really hate to share OIB as he colludes to keep bad governance in place and censors commentary. This piece pretry good though. Too bad he didn’t add qr code for my Anedot. (Link in comments.
