Job Opportunity: Manager for Bridgeport’s “Downtown Thursdays”

The Bridgeport Arts + Cultural Council (BACC) is seeking a manager to assist in expanding and administering the program offerings of Bridgeport’s monthly Downtown Thursdays events. The candidate will be a multifaceted, outgoing and engaging professional. He/she will to be able to spark and guide downtown revitalization through the development and coordination of monthly arts events, business engagement and community outreach. The candidate should be a well-rounded self-starter with excellent organizational management and communication skills.

Job Description

The job will involve coalition building, grass roots community outreach and organization, and supporting the Downtown Thursdays management team for the monthly events. The candidate will work closely with the Executive Director of the BACC, and BACC’s partners in the implementation of the Downtown Thursdays including the City of Bridgeport, Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County and the Bridgeport Downtown Special Services District, to identify and engage key arts assets, a variety of community groups, arts presenters, and downtown businesses in participating in monthly Downtown Thursdays. He/she will organize a plan for each monthly event, coordinating details with each participant and communicating logistics to the staff team. In addition, the candidate will coordinate collection of marketing information for the monthly event and assure that it is delivered to the marketing team in a timely manner. As this is a start-up program, the candidate will identify and execute additional managing tasks related to the success of the event.

Required Skills:

The candidate should have an appreciation of the arts and an enthusiasm for community engagement.

Professional business communications skills and proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and social media (facebook, twitter, blog, etc.) are necessary attributes.

Salary:

Part-time: 30 hours/week

Grant Funded Position

Salary: $15/hour

Duration:

April 16th to October 12th, 2012 with possibility of extension pending future funding. Must be available for all 2nd Thursdays of each month throughout the duration to assist with event execution, which will require evening hours. Downtown Thursdays events run from 5pm-9pm each month.

Reports to the Executive Director of the BACC

  1. Certainly sounds like a career builder. Where’s the time clock going to be located for the 30 hours of “work?”
    But the biggest problem seems to be how do you sell a product no one wants in an area where no one spends any time and most don’t either go or want to go?
    My suggestion (as I’ve been saying for over 10 years … go to New Roc City and see what they have done to a devastated downtown and learn and apply their successful model for redevelopment.

  2. *** How about “happy hour” rates at all the downtown restaurants and bars? During concerts at the green to promote more interest and returning guests? Great seasonal position for a college student majoring in Music and the Arts, etc. *** Bpt’s Blues and Jazz at McLevy Green! ***
