Drat! Jury Duty For Foster

UPDATE: One day and done. Will it be one day and done for mayoral candidate Mary-Jane Foster? Foster reports she has been called to serve jury duty on Wednesday. Talk about messing with campaign chi.

Foster says she will report to serve at 9 a.m. at the Superior Court house on Main Street, a few blocks from her Downtown headquarters on Fairfield Avenue.

“While I am disappointed to be taking time away from conversation with voters on the East Side, as originally planned, I am honored to be able to serve our city in this way,” says Foster in a statement. “Jury duty is an important duty for all citizens of our nation.”

The Foster camp says the candidate will return to a full campaign schedule when her jury duty service is completed. She has a large fundraiser planned Thursday night at the architectural office of Antinozzi Associates located across the street from her headquarters in the Bijou Square redevelopment.

  1. Did anybody listen to the WICC debate? I think Rick Torres was excellent and the way he addressed Joe Ganim in his closing statement was absolutely priceless. Rick came across smooth and sincere. Joe Ganim was as smooth as always and so full of himself to the point of embarrassment, reminding us he was the Democratic choice. I think my candidate needs more face time. I am disappointed she suggested affordable housing for the Stop & Shop site. I am disappointed she did not acknowledge Ganim was responsible for pushing that project through and the property owner, Al Lenoci went to jail as part of Ganim’s corruption trial. I am glad Rick Torres talked about the landmark farm, Dewhirst dairy and the pond all North Enders used to ice skate. I thought Ganim was very effective discussing my favorite parcel, Remington woods. Prime 450 acres of land that will transform the upper northeast corner of the city, as well as the Seaview Avenue expansion. I thought Rick very eloquently talked about the development along the Pequonnock River, knowing full well Rick owned property there and rented it to Rowers. It is perfect for waterfront development and I occasionally watch jet skiers at Knowlton Park. Overall, the WICC debate had too many candidates. I do not think the debate influenced anybody. But hats off to Torres. Nice job! I am happy Mary-Jane Foster elaborated on her business experience, but left out her education and law degree. Mary-Jane Foster could have and should bragged about UB and elaborated about her job, her relationship to the Governor and State Senators and most important did what Torres did! Bring Ganim down a few notches. I thought Ganim was arrogant and patronizing thanking all the little people and I felt Torres hit a homerun.

      1. Good to meet you this week on the trail, Jennifer! Did I tell you I handed the Torres card you gave me to a voter? I kind of grimaced and snatched it back, and replaced it with an MJF card instead while mumbling an excuse to the confused voter!

(Preemptively saying now that you’re going to say I’m the confused voter!)

        1. Good to meet you also. Please, feel free to hand out Torres cards anytime! Looking forward to crossing paths again. I thought the event was great, so many people in attendance, great questions and all the candidates stayed on topic. Great to hear the stories of the glory days of Bridgeport from the residents.

  2. Mary-Jane, please don’t be transparent. Jury duty is an honor? Sure, you are trying to cram in election work three weeks from d-day and it’s an honor to serve on jury duty. What else would you bullshit about?

  3. Jury duty is not an “honor,” M. Foster was reciting from the judicial script. Anyone else had the misfortune of being called to jury duty? In Bridgeport only 52% of all jury summonses are answered. The other 48% don’t even bother to mail in the forms or show up at the courthouse. A judge comes into the pool room, thanks everyone for their service and then shows a stag film extolling the virtues and privileges and honor of having the entire day shot to rat shit because a plaintiff or a defendant opted for a jury trial instead of taking a settlement or copping a plea.

I know one guy who got out of jury duty. He was called to hear the criminal trial of a man charged with child molestation, possession of kiddie porn, corrupting the morals of a minor child, etc., a really sick fuck. After hearing the charges Jake stood up in the jury box and shouted “Dude, you’re a scumbag! A real scumbag!” The judge was not amused, excused him from jury duty and had him escorted out of the building by judicial marshals.

    It worked.
