Dick’s Congress Street Bridge Visit

U.S. Senator Dick Blumenthal (it has a new ring) will be in Bridgeport Tuesday for a tour of the Congress Street Bridge, or what’s left of the span connecting downtown and the East Side. From Dick:

HARTFORD, CT) – Senator Richard Blumenthal announced today that he will conduct a two week listening tour across Connecticut beginning Monday, January 10, 2011. The listening tour will be an opportunity for Blumenthal to travel from town to town, meeting with small business owners, workers, community leaders, veterans, local elected officials, and other residents to listen to their ideas about creating jobs and rebuilding the economy. Blumenthal plans to visit Main Streets, small businesses, economic development centers, diners, senior centers, and downtown areas.

  1. I will definitely be one OIB blogger who will hold U.S. Senator Dick Blumenthal to his words. It’s not just about listening, it’s about being proactive on the things one learns when listening. Democrats and critics from the left attacked and ridiculed Sarah Palin on “The Bridge to Nowhere.” People don’t understand that in order to get somewhere roads have to be put in place to get there to begin with. Why is U.S. Senator Dick Blumenthal going to the Congress Street Bridge? Has anyone told him the bridge no longer exists? U.S. Senator Dick Blumenthal is going “nowhere.” The reason he can do that is because roads were built to do so.
The extinct Congress Street Bridge was the bridge to the same places or areas. Take Boston Avenue, Island Brook Avenue, River Street, E. Washington Avenue, Stratford Avenue, or I-95 in either direction and you will get to the same areas or places.
“… residents to listen to their ideas about creating jobs and rebuilding the economy …” I am a resident of Bridgeport. I intend to talk with Blumenthal about the former bridge and an idea (an invention) I have been sitting on for over 12 years and the problems I encountered in trying to develop it into jobs and money.
I’d like for Lennie Grimaldi to be there and be my witness and see if he will be there to listen to this or any other Bridgeport resident. Will you join me Lennie?
