From Brian Lockhart, CT Post:
Democratic City Councilman Alfredo Castillo has registered his five vehicles in town as recently ordered, but municipal records show he missed his deadline to start paying taxes on them, and those debts are accruing interest.
Castillo, who did not respond to requests for comment, was found over the summer by officials in Bridgeport and Shelton to have a 2004 Mercedes C240, a 2018 Honda Accord, a 2019 Acura TLX, a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan and a 2023 Toyota Sienna improperly registered in the latter town.
He has never publicly offered a rationale, but Shelton’s car tax rate or mill rate is lower than Bridgeport’s — 19.18 mills versus 32.46 mills. And after Castillo complied with the demand that he register the cars in Bridgeport, the subsequent 2023 tax bills for each added up to $3,220.03, over $1,300 more than the $1,902.66 he was charged in July in Shelton.

This is a non story imo..Tons of Bpt residents didn’t/can’t pay their taxes on time. For a lot of them,it comes down to food on the table & lights on,or pay taxes….since Castillo is an elected official, should he pay on time?, maybe, but regardless, this story is for headlines..
Normally I would agree but why does he have five cars? Two of which are luxury brands and another two are almost brand new.
Perhaps this is more a case of living beyond one’s means.
I think his tirade towards the Fairfield cop left a bad taste in people’s mouths which is probably why the press isn’t letting this one go.
Every City Council member takes an oath to obey and uphold the laws of Bridgeport in the furtherance of the socioeconomic health of the community, with a particular focus on their constituents. That, of course, includes setting an appropriate example. Castillo has done nothing but set a bad example and undermine the well-being of his constituents in the process.
Castillo is not an appropriate presence on Bridgeport’s City Council. He should resign and find an appropriate hole in which to secret himself — in Shelton…. And he has similar company on the Council that should do likewise…. (And how about Mayo Ganim and his big tax break on the house that he flipped in Black Rock?! It’s statewide news.)
Here’s the way it works in Bridgeport, Fluck the car taxes, Castillo will get his own Boot lock key!
