Council Of Churches Seeks Food Drive Support

From the Council of Churches:

Our Food Access program needs your help in ensuring that the 40 food pantries and soup kitchens in our Hunger Outreach Network (HON) can stock their shelves with healthy food throughout the coming fall and early winter.

We must raise at least $25,000 by November 1st in order to carry us through the end of December.

How you can help: go to www.ccgb.org/virtualfooddrive

Virtual Food Drive: Participate in the virtual food drive, which allows us to buy food wholesale and in bulk, greatly increasing the buying power of an individual’s contribution.

Monthly Donation: Consider making a recurring, monthly donation to ensure that HON’s critical stocks of food to support our forty pantries that serve 20,000 unique visitors per month remains consistent. Pantries often run low after the surge of holiday food donations starts to run dry and during the summer months.

Traditional Food Donation: If you prefer to donate food itself, please use the Healthy Food Shopping List on the back of this page, and contact Michelle McCabe at the Council to be directed to a pantry that most needs your donations:

Here are some of the reasons to support CCGB in this effort:

• The Council of Churches of Greater Bridgeport (CCGB) has been a leader in relieving hunger in Bridgeport, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford, and Trumbull since the early 1980s.

• Over 20,000 unique visitors per month are served through our 40 independent pantries and soup kitchens.

• Since 2013, we have been increasing the amount of fresh produce, lean meats, and whole grains distributed through the HON.

• CCGB provides culinary and nutritional education at many of the pantries and kitchens. We are working hard to improve our clients’ health, reduce visits to the emergency room, give children the nutritious food they need to focus in school, and provide
culturally appropriate food to diverse neighborhoods.

Please contact us if you have questions, need resources or support–we can do this … TOGETHER!
