Controlled Detonations Underway For Major Environmental Cleanup At Remington Woods

From News 12:

Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim is advising the public not to panic if they hear a series of loud explosions near the Lake Success Business Park through the end of the month.

The controlled detonations are part of a major environmental cleanup effort on the 400-acre property formerly known as Remington Woods.

“The area will become a public preserve — but first it needs to be cleared of old bullets and bombs from the days when Bridgeport was a military industrial hub,” Ganim said.

  1. The potential for explosive material to harm an individual on the property has been about the same for more than 50 years. Has there been a remediation effort by the current or former owners in the past 30 years. What has been accomplished and who has done what to allow the land and water resources to serve the “common good”. What remains to be done?
Mayor Ganim does not always provide a full context of City struggles with property that needs remediation or the bodies that oversee such processes on behalf of the public. Why not? What are the alternatives reviewed and where has the public gathered to consider? Is that reasonable relative to a significant acreage that has a potential to add to a tax base as well as serve residents as an environmental preserve? Where is the public engaged by the Mayor, early and often enough, with good info about the choices that are faced by elected and appointed officials who may not reside or pay taxes in Bridgeport? Time will tell.

  2. Worthy 🙂

I can’t speak of the specifics of who/what coded side, special interest party, is going to benefit, but if anything like Port’s past and present, it’s fair to say the city will get shortchanged. Taht is Port’s political game, right? 🙂 Time will tell, right John?

Perhaps Steve can lobbie for another Hot Thermal Loop Deuce 🙂 Or an Aqua culture facility, for the people, 🙂
