MainStateVentures will present the fifth finalist in their 1st Annual Art Competition and unveil the new work to be on exhibit. John Lawson, a Bridgeport resident, will be on hand to discuss his work entitled “Diligence” which will be on display from January 6, 2010 through early March. Lawson is the fifth of six artists who will install and display their art throughout the year in a rotating public art exhibition, prominently displayed on an eight foot by eight foot wall on the Broad Street side of 211 State Street.

MainStateVentures is hosting this rotating exhibition as a year-long celebration of art in public spaces. Every two months, a different piece of artwork by a Bridgeport artist will be installed, culminating in a public exhibition of all six pieces in spring 2011. The exhibition will culminate in the selection of a Grand Prize winner, who will receive a $1,000 cash award and a “People’s Choice” winner, who will be awarded a $250 cash prize.

The fifth finalist’s artwork will be unveiled on site on Broad Street across from the Burroughs-Saden Library (925 Broad Street) in downtown Bridgeport.

A reception with the artist will immediately follow at City Lights Gallery, 37 Markle Court, Bridgeport. Both events are free and open to the public.
