UPDATE: More than 300 schoolchildren greeted Santa who arrived by fire truck Downtown for Mayor Joe Ganim’s tree lighting on McLevy Green Thursday night with toys donated by mayoral and chief administrative office staff. With assistance from the Downtown Special Services District, Leisha’s Bakeria donated cookies and hot chocolate, Central High School donated cookies, and music was performed by the Lighthouse Program Gospel Choir.
OIB friend Doug Davidoff shares video from the evening:

It’s hard to compete with the pros at the Connecticut Post. But I sent out a few tweets from the McLevy Green event tonight, including a video of the kids counting down to the tree lighting with Santa and Hizzoner, followed by the magical lighting of the tree followed by “Jingle Bells” en masse. Enjoy. Merry Merry!
Doug, on behalf of those of us who could not make this evening’s festivities, thank you! You did a great job. The lighting was done beautifully. Downtown looked great. Sorry I missed Leisha’s Bakeria, she makes the best cookies I have ever eaten. How generous, a struggling business with a wonderful product contributed to the success of the evening and the LightHouse Choir are really quite amazing. Many of my students the other day at Beardsley School were part of that great choir. I understand the young boy that sang at Mayor Ganim’s inauguration was a student at JFK. “Mary did you know?” blew me away!
Doug, thanks, loaded your video.
*** Very nice! ***
