WTNH News 8 & Connecticut Post Join Forces

News 8 Bureau now in CT Post Newsroom

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Two major news organizations in Connecticut are joining forces to create the best possible coverage of Fairfield County news. On Thursday March 10th, WTNH News 8 will open a Fairfield County bureau in the newsroom of the Connecticut Post and will routinely broadcast news segments from inside. WTNH News 8 is Connecticut’s ABC affiliate and the Connecticut Post, part of Hearst Media Services Connecticut, is Southwestern Connecticut’s largest daily newspaper.

“This is a win-win for News 8 viewers who will benefit from our expanding coverage into Fairfield County,” said John Bell, Managing Editor of News 8. “Our new partnership with the Connecticut Post will give News 8 shared access to their resources and viewers will see increased news coverage immediately. We’re very excited about the opportunities this partnership will provide now and in the future.”

“Our top priority is to the residents and communities we serve, so this alliance only allows us to be even better and stronger,” said John DeAugustine, publisher of the Connecticut Post. “With the largest news gathering organization in Connecticut our commitment is to investigative journalism, and this partnership provides a broader platform for our work.”

The Connecticut Post is one of Hearst’s four daily newspapers in Connecticut, along with The Advocate in Stamford, The News-Times in Danbury and the Greenwich Time. Together with its seven weekly newspapers and 13 web sites, Hearst Media Services reaches more than 70 percent of greater Fairfield County.

“Our readers, whether online or in print, will benefit greatly from this partnership,” said Connecticut Post Editor Thomas Baden. “This will allow us to offer a robust new dimension to our already-strong local news coverage.”

WTNH News 8 will now have a reporter and photographer based in Bridgeport, the state’s largest city. The two organizations will share news resources, but will remain independent news reporting organizations. The Connecticut Post will now have access to the multitude of monthly Report It submissions News 8 receives from viewers around the state. The partnership will be more visible online, where the Connecticut Post website www.ctpost.com and the News 8 website www.wtnh.com, will have links between the two, to share news, video and weather content for users.

“We are very excited to have entered into this partnership,” said Mark Higgins, Vice-President and General Manager of WTNH/WCTX. “This newly formed news juggernaut will be the preeminent news gathering and reporting organization in our state. With a reporter and photographer now based in Bridgeport, we will be that much closer to any stories which happen in Bridgeport or in the surrounding Fairfield County.”

WTNH’s Bridgeport newsroom opens in the office of the Connecticut Post on Thursday, March 10th. Now all of the most important news from around the state will be available at www.wtnh.com and at www.ctpost.com.
