Bradley Files Resignation From School Board With City Clerk

“I hereby resign as a member of The Board of Education.” With that declaration in writing to board Chairman John Weldon, filed and stamped Friday morning by the City Clerk’s Office, Dennis Bradley is no longer a member.

The letter is written on Bradley’s State Senate letterhead. It is not dated by Bradley, but presumably the 30-day clock now starts for the school board to fill the vacancy. If not, Mayor Joe Ganim has authority to fill it. The letter is stamped as received by the City Clerk Feb. 15, 9:12 AM. Bradley’s resignation follows his election to the State Senate in November. He was elected to a four-year school board term in 2015.

Bradley issued this statement to OIB on Feb. 10 about his anticipated resignation.

The 3-plus years I spent on this board has been the most rewarding and eye-opening experience I ever have had in government. First, I have seen the countless hours of service our teachers and administrators give all while facing a lack of equitable funding, allegations of mismanagement and a general lack of recognition. It has inspired me and affirmed my faith in public service with the knowledge that the greatest among us are servants. Moreover, my time on the board has taught me that the problems we face, the frustration we face as a city can only be corrected by our legislature.

It is in this distinguished position of the Senate that I have been given the opportunity to be my brother’s keeper in ensuring we have great public schools in our city.

I promise you that the fighting spirit you have given me I take to Hartford. I also promise you that our fights while deep and intense I see now in retrospect to be done in brotherly love. Know that if you come from the Park City you are my brother and sister and though we may disagree on methodology and in direction we should travel, I ask that you remember our desired destination is the same and that is a bigger, better and brighter Bridgeport.

    1. Apparently Donald Day is absolutely on point. Sybil Allen has always been a “good Democrat.”

      Google is such a gift!

This from a CT Post story dated October 22, 2011 titled “Absentee Ballot Fraud has a Long History in Bridgeport ”

“April 6, 2001– Sybil Allen agrees to pay $5,000, resign from the Democratic Town Committee and not seek re-election to the Town Committee for two years. She was found to have completed absentee ballot applications for voters, persuaded one person to sign the application for a family member that no longer resided in the home, forged the signatures of two other applicants and told one voter that a candidate was not on the ballot. She also was present when ballots were marked and took possession of them. Allen was a candidate for re-election in the March 7, 2000 Democratic Town Committee primary.”

It also references AB fraud committed by Ernie Newton and Dr. Ralp Ford. Two of Dennis Bradley’s mentors he recognized on the Senate floor in his first speech.

        1. You know what I find interesting, Ernie. You didn’t post that the CT Post article was false or inaccurate. You didn’t post an alternative version of what happened. No, you became enraged that i posted a link to a CT Post article , which is Bridgeport’s paper of record, and suggested someone needs to physically assault me.

I mean I shouldn’t be surprised by it. Afterall you are a dear friend of Chris Taylor who is a “thug.” It appears you are a “thug” as well.

I had great relationships with school board members Bobby Simmons. John Bagley, and Howard Gardner. I just spoke with both Howard and John this week.

You never asked me to keep your name out of my mouth.” You stated you would no longer respond to me. You are an elected official, therefore you have to take the good and the bad. If you recall, I asked if there was a prison handshake we could join in to solidify your statement.
Yup, I’m crazy. Crazy like a fox. 🙂

          1. Now, as far as what I have accomplished on the Board of Education; here are some highlights:

            1) With the incredible assistance of Judge Lopez, both Bobby and I fought all the way to the Supreme Court to ensure we had an elected school board that answered to parents, taxpayers and voters. We did that at significant personal expense

            2) I was a significant contributor to exposing the incompetence of Dr. Ramos, who allowed $7,000,000 to lapse back to the City in 2008/2009. The illegal board had to fire him because they had no choice.

            3) I referred the Contol Transfer Policy and worked on it diligently to allow any parent to enroll their child in any school of their choice, minus magnet schools, and made it more difficult for principals to deselect students. I worked to establish an appeals process that allows parents to follow a protocol all the way up to the BOE.

            3) I referred both the Magnet School and Sibling policies and wouldn’t let go. I insisted it be revised to allow any student Pre-K – 3 to attend a magnet school regardless of grades, attendance and behavior that was negatively impacting minority children, especially boys of color. We added an appeals process so parents can appeal a principal’s decision to deselect a student all the way up to the BOE. A principal must provide resources before forcing that child and family to lose a coveted magnet school seat. After 2 1/2 year of working on it with incoming and outgoing members of the committee. It passed in November

            4) We now require all outside organizations and companies working with our students to provide a certificate of insurance with millions of dollars in additional insurance coverage specifically covering molestation. The BOE is named as additionally insured so that if we are sued due to molestation by one of their employees it is their insurance policy that will cover litigation and settlement costs. It will not come out of our limited financial resources.

            5) I personally rewrote our policy on bidding and contracts to adhere to state statute and the City Charter. Now every single goods or services valued at over $25,000 must go out to bid. The RFP/RFQ must be approved by the Board. The Board reviews and awards all the bids. Every contract must then come before the Board to be approved. We had an E-Rate consultant for 12 years without going out-to-bid. I forced it to go out-to-bid. They lowered their consulting fee by $10,000 to do the exact same work. Once they had competition they became competitive in their pricing. I forced the same thing with refuse. We saved $30,000 by leaving the City and utilizing a private contractor. We have become stallworths of taxpayer funds.

            6) I organized great events at both Edison and THooker recognizing our local fire fighters on National Firefighter Day. The assemblies were amazing. Both the firefighters, staff, parents and students loved it.
            7) I started working on an event in October with Curiale School to honor a former Curiale student who was in the Airforce and died tragically last summer. I coordinated it with Jim Himes office and his initiative Valentines for Veterans. It was in memory of Airman Lawrence Manlapit III. I coordinated with American Legion Post 140 and Homes for the Brave. The deceased airman’s family loved it, the students loved it and the veteran’s loved it. We had adorable first graders give each veteran a Valentines card. The Commander of Post 140 told me the veterans loved it and we are going to try to make it an annual event.

That’s just a few examples of what I have done.

What about you, Ernie? What have you done in the 18 months since you were elected?

          2. Lets not forget Ernie, Maria also single handedly got rid of the white superintendent and was replaced with a black superintendent. 🙂

P.S. More like crazy like a bat. 🙂

    1. As I was knocking on doors and doing my best to educate voters why they should not vote for Dennis; I would share the following anology:

“Dennis Bradley is like a shiny, new car. On the exterior there are no dents or scratches. The paint is shiny and glossy. You open the door and the interior is pristine and you can smell the newness.”

“If Dennis Bradley knocked on your door you would be impressed by him. He is handsome, articulate and dresses well. But don’t be fooled by the exterior.”

“Then you lift the hood of the car and there is no engine or transmission. Does it matter how good the car looks on the exterior if it doesn’t work?”

      Every single person said “no.”

“That’s Dennis Bradley. All surface, no substance.”

I try to communicate my message in terms the average person can relate and connect with. This really resonated as I went door to door.

  1. Dennis Bradley is such a liar, Bradley stated, “my time on the board has taught me that the problems we face, the frustration we face as a city can only be corrected by our legislature,” Bradley was elected to the legislature body of the Bridgeport Board Of Education and he did nothing as a legislator on the BBOE for his 3-plus years on the board. Bradley’s only claim to fame was his leadership in organizing a boycott among other BBOE members in notperforming their duties for the 20,000 plus Bridgeport school children and now Bradley takes that record and mindset to the state senate.

  2. Be careful what you wish for.

They have his replacement all lined up or he would not have submitted his resignation letter.

My guess it will be Paula Romero who is romantically involved with State Rep. Santiago.

  3. I spoke with someone who spent years up at the Capital. I asked “how many people up at the Capital have already figured out Dennis is full-of-sh-t.” They responded “the vast majority of those up at the Capital read OIB. They knew about Dennis before he arrived in the Capital.” They went on to say “he has pissed off a lot of people already.”

Needless to say I was not surprised.

    1. Maria, that’s why I said, “now Bradley takes that record and mindset to the state senate,” they that he hasn’t shit. Bradley’s committee assignments and title are no big thing because there are only 33 state senators with 20 Democrats with Bridgeport being the largest city in the state there are certain positions that go along with that.

  4. Maria personally I hope you lose your seat. You are wasting you talent sitting in a auditorium fighting on behalf of the students in the Port, what has turned into a circus. You should be in Hartford. They can’t silence you if you’re in Hartford. Sen. Bradley is correct. A lot ofB BOE problems come from Hartford. I hope to see you take on Stallworth after you lose. BAM 🙂 #ESLOUT
