Arrest Made In Black Rock Homicide

Police have made an arrest in the 2015 drowning death of Wayne Bentley, 42 of West Haven, who was killed August 1 from a fight outside Chubby’s bar and grill, 3488 Fairfield Avenue in Black Rock. The medical examiner ruled it a homicide.

On Tuesday Richard de Carvalho, 33, turned himself into police headquarters following issuance of arrest warrant. He was charged with negligent homicide, assault and breach of peace. Bond was set at $500,000, according to information released by public safety spokesman Michael Giannotti.

Shortly after 1 a.m. August 1, 2015 Bridgeport and Fairfield police responded to a fight outside of Chubby’s that spilled into Ash Creek that divides the two communities.

Detective Richard Lariccia was among the investigators.

  2. Chubby’s is the first restaurant in Bridgeport section, Black Rock when approached by Post Road from Fairfield. Some years ago, before there were NRZ rules and a special designation was applied to development regarding an arts and entertainment district. I am not sure about that designation or application of a district today. Perhaps a committee might see if swimming lessons for bar patrons at low tide will qualify for a grant. Time will tell.
