Antonio Felipe Tops Kelvin Ayala In State House Primary

State Rep. Antonio Felipe has defeated Downtown businessman Kelvin Ayala, according to unofficial returns in the 130th State House District covering South End, Downtown and portions of the East Side and West End.

Felipe and Ayala ran about even with the in-vote count. Absentee ballot totals swayed heavily for the 24-year-old Felipe who won his seat in a special election in 2019 following the death of Ezequiel Santiago. Felipe won the AB count by nearly 300 votes. Felipe, as the endorsed candidate, appeared on Joe Biden’s presidential primary line.

This was Ayala’s first candidacy foray into elective politics. He supported State Senator Marilyn Moore for mayor in 2019.

Felipe is now heading to his first full term in the legislature.

  1. *** Congrat’s to Antonio! *** Now lets get down to real business, “listen & learn” & don’t be afraid to ask questions or for help. Reach out to your 9- district town council members & district constituents to see, listen & keep them informed on whats happening that could affect them. Never commit either way, till you’ve done your homework & covered all bases on the subjects in hand. Be yourself & remember, no man is an island, you must create a team spirit at times to get things done. *** GOOD-LUCK ***
