  1. East Side/Upper East Side, corner of Arctic and Hallett Streets? How far is this from Jane Street, a dozen men, one year featured earlier this week? What type of business do you do in the “Wild East” of Bridgeport? Take a look at TIPS Trustworthy Information for Public Safety as a way to get local neighbors to alert the police to the illegal guns and gang violence without becoming a victim yourself.

Envelopes are out at five libraries, seven Housing Authority offices, three Stop & Shops, and soon at two Compares and one Price Right in Bridgeport at customer service desks. It’s an experiment to see if people will send in a provided and postpaid envelope, ANONYMOUSLY, what they see, hear and fear. See Keila Torres’ article last Friday. Maybe Lennie will run it again tomorrow? Time will tell.

  2. If you don’t have police patrols this will continue to happen. We have 21 street cops on duty per shift, that’s 105 officers. Where are the other 300-plus? Yeah I know, you have detectives and you have narcotics. We need every available able-bodied cop on patrol in the neighborhoods. Get these cops off of horses and in cars, get the rest of the specialized units in patrol cars. Do I need cops on ATVs watching the beaches?
We can pass all the laws we want, it will not stop what is happening. Only patrol can get it done but they need the manpower to do it. I salute the street cops we have now, god knows they are trying to do an impossible job. To them I say thanks, to the upper management of the PD I say shame on you.

  3. *** The curfew ordinance passed & was signed by the Mayor but the details on enforcement have not been established yet. So let’s stop blaming the curfew for continued crime in the city before it’s actually started! Besides getting more police for extended community patrols what other bright ideas do the usual complainers have on OIB? *** IT’S EVERYBODY’S PROBLEM ***

  4. No one is blaming the curfew for crimes. It is the mayor and the City Council who think a curfew will prevent crime and these shootings had nothing to do with a curfew. Once again, what are the mayor and the police chief going to do, what is their plan and do they have one besides a nighttime curfew for kids?

  5. *** In this city you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t! Lack of a good education, drugs, no moral values, broken family structure, no jobs economy, circus sideshow politics just to name a few of many. Plenty of complainers yet the lack of voter interest when time to change the status quo. It’s all f***** up! *** ZOMBIELAND ***

  6. Mojo, you listed a number of problems facing the mayor but what has Mayor Finch done? He makes a promise to rebate the taxpayers of Bridgeport $600 but he never did that, he underfunds the students of Bridgeport by not increasing the Board Of Education budgets for four years, then he takes the voting rights away from the voters of Bridgeport to elect the members of the BOE but still voters put him back into office. Well, why should Mayor Finch do anything different now, he sees he can do (or not do) anything he wants and he will not pay a price for it and the City Council won’t say or do anything because they don’t want to get challenge in a primary. These killings will unfortunately continue because of the lack of leadership from this mayor and police chief to a have a plan and vision to attack crime.

  7. We all have rights to say how we feel … that said, we comment on this blog … some of you I know others I do not. Some make a lot of sense … others make me laugh … But on the other hand … what can we do? What suggestions do we make and help make it happen? Vote??? People are too upset … as one elderly lady said to me yesterday, I am never going to vote again … my Medicare has been taken away … my light is going to be cut off … and these politicians do nothing …

  8. It is truly an epidemic; these frequent murders. The reason there are so many is simple. There are too many bad guys over 18 arrogantly walking the streets comfortable in the knowledge the Bridgeport Police are so inept the bad guys can do crime at will knowing the likelihood of a prompt police response is minimal.

In the very early ’90s the city experienced similar murderous chaos. The street gangs were running wild. Brutal murders were occurring all the time. Then the detectives got serious. They rounded up all the notorious bad guys and steadily put them away. The murder rate plummeted.

After Walsh we had some pretty good chiefs. It was impressive to see the chief come into the Colony Diner late at night. There was a visible police presence and the cops were effective.

Not so now. The solution is to revert to the proper policing of the early ’90s.

Put the bad guys away so they can’t do bad things on the streets.

What’s our current solution? Take the teenagers off the street.

All three of my children had curfews my wife and I imposed. They were home when we told them to be home. Result? Good kids now with good kids of their own.

Only the Mayor and the Police Chief can solve this murderous crime spree. Finch is an imbecile and Guadett is in over his head.

    Qué Lástima!!

    1. Well said, yahooy. This city had a police chief from New York who kicked butt and took names. Crime was beyond low, but unlike the current chief, he didn’t kiss anyone’s ring. That got him a ticket back to NY. This chief apparently has no answers except to show up for photo ops with the mayor holding hands at vigils. Get the cops off of the scooters at the parks and off of park sticker duty.

  9. *** These senseless shooters must be caught, tried, convicted and made an example of regardless of their age, race, religion or lack of, or socioeconomic level as some liberals would like a jury to believe! *** SEND A BIG MESSAGE! ***
