This story is getting better every day. State Rep. Ezequiel Santiago, stepson of city sheriff and South End District Leader Mitch Robles, both of whom support tax deadbeat for State Senate Richard DeJesus, prevailed upon Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill to rescue pops from prior indiscretions. The switch for Mitch! Gee Denise, was it worth it? From Jon Lender, Hartford Courant:
Contrary to public statements by Secretary of the State Denise Merrill, someone “pulled the plug” on an effort by a Merrill staff lawyer to revoke the notary public license of Bridgeport Democratic Party official Mitchell Robles in 2011, according to emails obtained by The Courant Thursday.
“The machinery was in gear, but it was not me that pulled the plug on it,” Bernard Liu, the lawyer who in June 2011 began proceedings to take away Robles’ notary privileges, wrote in an email to a fellow employee in Merrill’s office this past Oct. 31.
Liu was reacting to an Oct. 30 story in The Courant that said Robles was allowed to continue as a notary despite failing to make legally required disclosures of felony drug convictions on five sworn notary applications spanning two decades. Meanwhile, other notaries were disciplined or lost their licenses for lesser conduct.

What an utter embarrassment. How is the mayor weighing in on this? Does this qualify for his lifetime ban on elected public officials? Does Mitch know how the mayor feels about thing like this? Or would this result in a lifetime ban for EZ Santiago?
At this rate there won’t be anyone left to run for office in Bridgeport.
Denise Merrill is a disgrace. She has turned a blind eye to every bit of voter fraud in Bridgeport. Ballot shortage, Ayala the registrar, absentee ballots, and now Robles. I hope she is forced to resign.
As the old saying goes, “It’s not the crime, it’s the cover-up.” Well this cover is about as far up as one can make it.
Mark my words. She is done. Toast. Fini.
What do you mean done? In the next election? No one will remember.
She lied to the Hartford Courant about her involvement in this matter. She directly involved in the over up. Don’t create a paper trail.
This is the paper of record in the state capital. DONE. The matter has been or will be referred to the Attorney General. Denise will be a good soldier and fall on her political sword.
And you think she has done nothing wrong???
When did I say I thought she had done nothing wrong? I just wanted to know what you meant by done. I don’t have the depth of knowledge about such things. If she lied then she should be held accountable for sure.
Mitch probably was pardoned by the Governor, way back, but the cloud is still lingering.
Lennie,
Refresh my memory.
Wasn’t a complaint filed against Santiago regarding absentee ballot abuses that was cleared by the SEEC which reports to Merrill?
I remember reading about this Mitch Robles issue right before the November election. I decided not to vote for Denise Merill because of this issue. I am so glad I did not vote for her.
Before she points fingers at Sanda Ayala and all three of the Hartford Registrars, she needs to take a look at herself and her unethical behavior.
See Maria? We agree on something. I refused to vote for Merrill for the same reason.
Progress, my friend.
I agree with Maria all the time. Just sayin’, Bubba!
Lisa, after seeing you in action at Central High School working in support of the “Vote NO” campaign, I am a Lisa Parziale fan. I remember seeing Mayor Finch standing about ten feet from you and you were giving it good to the Vote YES poll workers who were out-and-out lying. I actually heard one of their workers repeatedly tell voters I was telling people to vote no to protect my “job” and I worked for the BOE??? I remember thinking how fearless you were.
Thank you Maria, I feel the same about you. If you’re with Ed Gomes (I hope you are), we can do this the old-fashioned way, beat them at the polls. I would welcome the opportunity to work side-by-side with you again.
I would welcome both of you. Lisa you are actually in or very close to the district. You know I was brought up on first how to be a man and second the importance of serving those you are elected by and maintaining your word. I promise here and now to serve my community, my loyalty has never been an issue, at one time I believed the platform of the party would satisfy the needs of my community and on a national and even State level that may be true. Politics in Bridgeport has become a business, one we haven’t been too good at. Please consider supporting my candidacy.
