  1. I was not on last CC meeting list either, yet I prepared, spoke three minutes and submitted my comments to the City Clerk for archiving. Perhaps you are interested?????

Do you divide fellow human beings, existing in the same time and space as you, as collections of folks with whom you find fault, disagree, and fail to engage; or do you seek out connections with all people to listen and learn, participate in casual conversations then reflect and respond, and depend on others to exercise rights and practice duties and obligations that are required for success in a democratic republic? While you consider my initial question that shows the current division among national leaders, in my opinion, you have a task of local attention and leadership. In the three minutes allowed let me provide questions about your local leadership:
    • Your Council rules can be amended each December of even numbered years. Who were the most recent seven members of that Committee and are their meeting minutes available to the public?
    • More than a year ago, in January 2024, reports of support from all for a Charter Review was underway with a resolution to initiate Charter revision. Expectations of multiple public hearings, on complex Charter issues, indicate the importance of the process and public input. Where are we today? Where is support for active civic participation in Boards and Commissions in general?
    • Specifically, where is ACTION towards putting life into the ‘paper’ Fair Housing Commission ordinance from two years ago, a necessary action by the Council because more than twenty years have passed since this Charter group was appointed and met?
    • Last Thursday evening 12 members of the Council listened to the Receiver for Success Village property, owner-residents, and fiscal matters after a failed self-governing effort and thanked him and management attempting to restore quality living conditions. Today, allegations of past criminal acts will be studied by “forensic auditing” powers. Yet no one is working to improve and educate on their own By-Laws, duties and obligations for residents. Such learning today does not interrupt any other process ongoing, does it?
What will you do to help the lessons of CIVIC obligations take root in Bridgeport? Time will tell.
