From Mayor Bill Finch:
Nearly 100-percent of City streets have been made passable during the past 24 hours using City equipment supplemented by private contractors and assistance from the National Guard.
The citywide Snow Emergency parking ban remains in effect. Beginning at 7 p.m. this evening, snow removal crews will be working on clearing major Snow Emergency Streets concentrating their efforts on Madison Avenue, from Bulls Head north to the town line, and Central Avenue from Seaview to Boston Avenue. During a Snow Emergency, no parking is allowed on streets marked by red and white signs. The Department of Public Works reports that school parking lots near these main arteries are open and available for residents to use to get their cars off the Snow Emergency streets. Once crews begin their work, Police will tow any vehicles that are still parked on these streets so work can continue unimpeded. Residents with questions about tonight’s towing can call 203.576.7671.
“Our plow drivers and heavy equipment operators have been working very hard around the clock in order to make all of our streets open and passable so residents can get to work, and do their errands. I want to thank the residents of Bridgeport for their patience and understanding during this time,” said Mayor Bill Finch.
The snow removal crews will work throughout the evening and into the early morning hours to clear the snow emergency routes mentioned above. Snow plow crews also will be working throughout the City to clear intersections and other areas where there are large amounts of snow to allow safe passage for motor vehicles and police and fire vehicles.
Storm cleanup information:
All city schools will be closed on Friday, February 15. Schools will be closed the week of Feb. 18-25.
The Snow Emergency parking ban remains in effect. No parking is allowed on Snow Emergency streets.
Snow removal crews will be working on Central Avenue from Seaview to Boston and on Madison Avenue from Bulls Head to the town line after 7 p.m., this evening. All vehicles should be removed from Snow Emergency streets by that time, or they will be subject to towing.
Senior Centers will be open tomorrow; the East Side Senior Center will relocate to the Health Department at 752 E. Main St., in the Social Services training room due to a roof leak and heating problems.
Garbage and recycling pickups will resume on Monday, Feb. 18 as scheduled. Recycling scheduled for pickup on Feb. 11-15 will be picked up Feb. 25-March 1.
The National Guard will continue to assist the police and fire departments with numerous high-wheel, 6X6 trucks and other apparatus to help answer emergency calls, and snow removal details.
The City asks residents to help clear the inlets and catch basins near your house or business. Keeping catch basins clear of snow and ice will reduce the possibility of street flooding during heavy rains or snow melting periods.
Information regarding Storm Nemo cleanup efforts is available on the City’s website at www.bridgeportct.gov/bptsnow.
The worst snow cleanup ever!
Just resign, Bill.
The worst snow cleanup ever, next the worst “trash and garbage” cleanup.
When will Mayor Finch hold a press conference or go on one of his listening tours to hear what the residents of Bridgeport have to said or answer questions from the media seeing how much he loves being in front of the camera talking.
