Have you checked out the new Brewport right off Exit 27 from I-95? It’s housed in an old newspaper distribution center not far from the ballpark and arena. What’s the secret to perfect pie? The water. And a tasty cold brew. And for you wine lovers they have that, too. And spirits. Gin! Now that’s our kinda place. Hmmm, could there be an OIB party in the future?

It was outstanding, even within a peer group of the best regional pizza style in America. The crust was New Haven thin, which means it was seared and slightly charred, producing a crispy, crunchy crust, but it retained a soft and chewy interior, which kept elements of fresh, yeasty bread, and thus contributed fully to the overall flavor of the pie, rather than just being a durable delivery van for the toppings. The sauce tasted like fresh, summery tomatoes, and the mozzarella was blistered with flavorful browning. The meatballs were mostly small, easily bite sized, and assembled into rough, natural shapes. They were slightly meaty and juicy, but dominated by loads of garlic which I thought set the surrounding flavors off explosively. For a place almost under the interstate, in Bridgeport, to have pizza like this was revelatory.
Excellent post! Bridgeport certainly has some of the best pizza around. I am looking forward to checking Brewport out. Today however, Downtown Bridgeport was the place to be for the Caribbean Jerk Fest. The place was mobbed. You would have thought the city would have coordinated with local business to keep parking lots open. It was shameful. Empty lots in downtown with one of the largest draws in years. Excellent event. Great job promoting this event. You could give lessons to the city and other venues.
Back to Brewport, Great post!
This is the first time in over 10 years I missed the Connecticut Free Shakespeare. I was totally unaware it was happening over those four days and all of a sudden I see signs for the Play in Stratford. Very disappointed.
To all OIB readers, Dave Walker’s mother has just passed away.
I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to the Walker family. May your mother’s memory be forever a blessing. Most sincerely.
Steven Auerbach, thank you for letting us know. My condolences to David Walker and his family.
Steven and Frank,
Thanks to both of you for your kind words. I take comfort in knowing, given the way she lived her life, she must be in heaven. I will do my best to live my life in a way I hopefully will be able to join her in the future.
On the subject of this article, Mary and I will definitely try Brewport at some point in the near future. We would encourage others to do so as well. Bridgeport needs all the new businesses it can get.
