Watch: Senator Murphy, At Dem Convention, Blasts Trump For Blowing Up Border Deal

“Trump killed that bill and he did it because he knew if we fixed the border, he’d lose his ability to divide us; he’d lose his ability to fan the flames of fear about people who come from different places.”

        1. of course, the nation’s debt will not be affected. 20 billion is nothing in the current Biden economy. in the last year alone the nation’s debt increased by 2 Trillion, I can assure you the Ds are not going to tackle the spending, other than say, tax the wealthy, But we know there leaders will not tax themselves.

  1. Donald Trump has talked extensively about the Southern border and immigrants because it has provided him with a ‘negative storyline’ which was not in his ‘political’ interest to approve at tje to,e or (previously, during his term of office, govern wisely.)

Rather he has continued his non-stop political scripts that produces fear, division among citizens, and continues targets of hate against whom he professes to defend. Murphy and the DNC are right in protesting the selfishness of Trump relating to his personal political position interrupting ‘border justice’ and the future of those attracted to the US by the lure of ‘freedom and opportunity.’

The DNC gathering in Chicago, on view for the past three evenings, has shown a reason for HOPE by all Americans under a Harris-Wals leadership team; by using the DIVERSITY present, on screen, ready to participate, for all to see; and a rightful demonstration of caring for others, which acknowledges EMPATHY.

Hope, American diversity, and empathy for others in their pursuit of our opportunity is a message that returns us to a higher road in the future, perhaps more attuned to facts and historical truths in our story-telling?

How impressed have you been with the change in political tone? Will you personally respond by conversing with other neighbors on the things that seem larger than what you know enough to solve? Will you remember to vote in November, in an informed manner, for all offices and questions on your ballot? That is “doing something”. That is democratic activity and practice. Your brief investment now can produce community improvement now, and into the future, for your family and for all of us. Thank you. Time will tell.

    1. For somebody who dives so deeply into Bridgeport municipal & HR shortcomings, I wish you would apply that same standard to the VP Harris platform or lack thereof..

The Harris campaign certainly looks like a rerun of Biden hiding from the public, discussing nothing. Empty platitudes revolving around HOPE, DIVERSITY & EMPATHY are not why I will vote for a candidate.

Like many, I do feel the open border is a disaster on multiple fronts. The Biden-Harris administration was MIA until it came to election season. Ukraine, Middle East, Gaza, China, inflation, economy concern me and all metastasized under Biden-Harris. Nothing I saw from Biden-Harris over the past 3 1/2 years suggests it will improve over the next term.

The fact that all the Democratic Elites including Harris covered up for Biden’s decline meant that we did not have an honest Dem Primary Had it not been for the Trump-Biden debate, they would have continued with a puppet president.

Pretty sad state of affairs that Trump, Biden, and now Harris are our Presidential options.

      1. Denis,
If you were wishing for my reflections on the events of this Election Year, you might have called me. You complete your note with: “Pretty sad state of affairs that Trump, Biden, and now Harris are our Presidential options.”

What did you have in mind as to options back in 2021, 2022, 2023, and June 2024 for example? And where did you speak up to OIB? So two, old white males disappoint you, do they? Well one of them kept his faith and love of America and did what he could to advance a person with whom he has worked closely to the position she holds today, candidate for US President, a female of color with broader experience recently on international issues and longer on law and justice issues domestically and a great deal of support from the Democratic family, necessary in many more local elections of Governors, Senators, and Representatives, among others.

You, and any other “old white guys” like me, have about +70 days ahead to do the necessary reading and come to a conclusion that fits our ‘feelings’. Which candidate seems to satisfy your requirements better to spend the next four years leading all the people of our land forward? Time will tell.

  2. At this momentary election period, a month past President Joseph Biden’s unprecedented generous political act of forgoing the opportunity to run again for President, which he would have loved for obvious reasons, but rather responded to higher values and motive by honoring a responsibility to the larger American community of all of us, instead. This included the temporarily deluded and lied to fellow citizens, who have paid more attention to Donald’s grievances and false stories than they have actively pursued a path to democratic practice and the opportunity for just rewards.

Joel, you seem to have some dark tales lurking in your mind which you enjoy. I fear your ridicule of Chief Porter may reveal something personal or private, but it also may have set you on a mistaken and accusatory trail. And alleging scandalous behavior where it is not likely harms genuine corrupt behavior or leadership that continues and causes folks from other communities to hold us in disregard.

Where do we agree on the likely truths of the situation where a salary and retirement benefits are enjoyed at the same moment, but these two elements are within the law?

    1. Rod Porter served many years with the Bridgeport Police Department and received salary and benefits including coverage under former Plan A, probably, that the City transferred to CMERS, a State plan.
    2. At a certain point Rod Porter (while ever being available to City leadership) for a potentisl call and appointment to the position of Chief, decided instead to retire, as a way of maximizing his time, resources, and income and put in his papers to CMERS.
    3. As part of the City pursuit of a full time qualified chief he was selected and was offered a five year contract including basi salary, holildays, vacation days, sick days, and likely healthcare, though he may have chosen that benefit. Such contract did not include retirement benefits to be generated or added to the amount he had secured two years ago apparently and thus there is no added retirement expense to the City or benefit to him or his family. (See # 3 exception, possibly.)
    4. Assuming the potential that this explanation is accurate, and perhaps can settle your personal turmoil, I hope that you can consider silence, if not an apology, for alleging conspiracy processes going on in the City without evidence, apparently. Conspiracy theories and unsubstantiated allegations have turned community expectations and confidence in a negative direction. Perhaps this is the dawn of a new day? Time will tell.

    1. It’s obvious you spoke with Chief Thief Disorder Porter over some Kool-Aid. That’s his story? Pension Fraud is a crime. When it’s committed by a City Official; Over ,
$10,000 involved; A violation of a federal law (wire fraud), you have the three elements required for Federal Jurisdiction.

Nothing but BULLSHIT is coming out your mouth. You conveniently are totally ignoring the letter of the law in regards to CMERS rules, policy and procedures.

  3. JML, Ridicule of Porter? Screw you and Porter. Since the likes of you are too stupid to read between the lines of bald-face lies. Stand your ignorant ass on the side-line and wait for Brian Lockhart and Judge Carmen Lopez to report on their findings. I’m a much better investigator than you, Chief Thief Disorder Porter, and Det. Frank The Midget Podpolucha, combined. I will always be “Just the Janitor” and It’s my duty to sweep their dirt from under their rugs. Go drink your Prune Juice and keep your ass on the sideline in the meantime.

  4. Joel, your opinion does matter to many, more than that of a bloated gas bag who thinks he can dazzle the masses with HIS wordy opinions. You have spent time in the BPD and as a custodian have had contact with most members and civilian employees. If anyone wants to dispute your opinion they should wait until all the information is in.

  5. Gentlemen,
My mother taught me to be respectful even when your companions may disparage you. I know what line of work that Joel retired from and where he learned many things.

Of opinions and facts I can become better informed always, but I read the information Joel is basing his argument upon, and I come away from it with a different understanding. That is what adult conversation within the community is about. It is not name calling as in playground days.

So, Joe, if my words continue to dazzle you, please protect your eyes and resort to sunglasses.

And Speedy, calling out “fraud” and other issues at the moment may indicate that your issues with the Chief are deeper than you wish to reveal. OK. But when I look at the facts: If CMERS stops the monthly retirement payment to Chief Porter and it is deferred to a second retirement date, assuming he is receiving the max benefit already, what does he gain? But if CMERS puts him into the plan once again, the City will have contributions to make for him that is not costing the City at this time, so it seems like the current plan has him and the City coming out with some gain, while salary only for the contract period, with a similar pension payout in five or ten years loses him income today, and costs the City more Defined Benefit contributions? Time will tell.

  6. JML When I refer to you as a bloated gas bag I am simply stating my opinion. It appears that you lack the capacity to understand the content of a simple text. I do not claim to be dazzled by you in any way shape or form. Maybe your pompous arrogance prevents you from understanding simple facts that do not flatter you. I suspect you may respond with your wordy bullshit however I will not waste my time with a reply.

    1. Your opinion is acknowledged as to being “yours” though fewer readers, who wish to know more about “civic engagement” in the Bridgeport community would agree, or actually share such nonsense.
I understand that you have been party active in the City at moments of time, but unsustained and unannounced in terms of advocating for the common good with any strength. Is that why we are a ONE PARTY City? Argue the facts, or attack the person, and divide the community?
Always happy to spend time with folks who care and wish to continue as “lifetime learners”. Time will tell.

  7. While I agree with Dennis O’Malley about the dangerous side of Democratic foreign policy under post-Carter Democrat regimes, it must be remembered that it was the Reagan, and then the Bush, Republican regimes that took our foreign policy from Détente to incendiary Demagoguery and outright war — with the dangerous confrontation of a politically, economically, and culturally hobbled Soviet Union, with a follow-up crescendo (after the collapse of the latter) of contraindicated alliances and treaties that basically set the stage for more war, i.e., the geopolitical shit-storm that the Democrats have managed to shepherd into even more intensity on a truly global scale. The intervening Trump term was a nightmare (that keeps on giving) on all US political fronts, but especially with a chaotic foreign “policy” that resulted in a dense political and economic fog, with his nurturing of alliances with unstable dictatorships, antagonism of nascent and mature nuclear powers, and cultivation of ill-will between nations, regionally, and globally (toward each other and the US, e.g., US and Nato, US and Cental and South America…).

Now; we can certainly say that Biden continued with the “Cold War” “Uncle Sam must spank the world” policy that SOS Clinton (in her DNC-brokered role under POTUS Obama) took farther down the road from war monger “W”/”43.” But we cannot predict that POTUS Harris will continue down the path of her predecessors, in regard to foreign policy, since she has indicated that she would prefer the role of peacemaker, versus the role of provocateur that Hillary gifted to the D-policy in her former SOS role….

In regard to Domestic Policy, she was very clear. She indicated that there would be more taxes for the super- rich that would pay for lower taxes for modest-income households, even as housing and education opportunities were greatly increased for the latter, as well as much more help on the medical front for all modest-income Americans, and additionally with a new, bi-partisan Southern Border policy, brokered under Biden, but derailed by would-be POTUS Trump.

To contrast the D/Harris platform with the R/Trump platform, we might just say that they are polar opposites.

I eagerly look forward to the Harris presidency and will celebrate when the MAGA Monster, DJT, starts serving his cumulative 100 year+ prison terms.
