By an 11-9 vote Jeanette Herron is the new president of the City Council, edging Aikeem Boyd.
The vote difference from two weeks ago when it was 10 votes for Herron and 8 for Aidee Nieves was Maria Pereira’s vote for Herron. Pereira voted no to either candidate in the initial vote December 1.
What changed? Unclear.
Pereira, in remarks before the legislative body, explained both Herron and Boyd reached out to her for a vote.
After the vote, announcing her committee assignments, Herron appointed Pereira co-chair of Miscellaneous Matters, and a member of several committees. Controversies and Pereira’s inflammatory rhetoric led Nieves to strip her of committee positions.
Boyd, Herron’s North End 133rd District partner, stepped into the void when Nieves, after about seven years as leader, realized the 11 votes required by the City Charter were unavailable to her.
The other no vote two weeks ago was Galen Murray who cast his vote for Boyd, so there was a split in the Black Rock/West End 130th District with his partner Nicole Nelson who maintained her vote for Herron.
But, the deciding factor for Herron who had 10 votes locked in two weeks ago was Pereira. If Pereira had voted for Herron two weeks ago, no need for another vote.
What’s the politics of all of this? A fascinating dynamic.
Mayor Joe Ganim wanted to keep Nieves in place, but time can create friction and enough council members sought change. Boyd stepped in to fill the alternative gap.
Still, Herron has a strong working relationship with Ganim, and Democratic Town Chair Mario Testa would rather work with her than someone he does not know.
Boyd is a newcomer/outsider with no definitive relationship with Ganim or Testa.
So, Ganim’s not losing sleep over this vote. For Testa. For now, anyway.
Herron represents the North End 133 District. Her website bio:
Upon moving to Bridgeport over twenty years ago, Councilmember Jeanette Herron became a fierce advocate for improving quality of life for residents, eliminating food deserts, and increasing support for senior citizens in the city. As the Community Liaison for the Bridgeport Public Schools, Herron focuses on supporting parents in various capacities in her role. She is a first-generation college graduate from the New York Institute of Technology with an AS in Early Childhood Education and holds a BS in Psychology from the University of Bridgeport. Herron is a current board member of the National League of Cities, Hispanic Elected Local Officials, and The Color a Positive Thought Organization.

John, conspiracy theory coming your way. 🙂
Assuming all vote stayed the same and Aidee’s votes when to Boyd. It would seem Big Balls Murray seem to have no choice to vote for Boyd considering being a newly elected CC member did vote for Jeanette in the first round. So perhaps he was fore Aidee and Maria no vote was the linchpin in this latest shit show freak show called Port Politics.
That being said, Jesus Maria? You a one woman dysfunctional enigma freak show. 🤣
Not only did you create the shit show freak show. You also solved it. Good Job. 🙂
It’s kind of sexy. It’s making my Italian geno like

To be fair it could be the Santa hat. 🤣
Either way. 🙃

Shout out to Moses for nominating Jeanette, and Fred Astaire, WEEPA for seconding it. 🙂

P.S Just playing Maria, though you do then to look sexy in hats. JS Talk about a F-ing irony. 🤣
The BIG loser here is Councilmen Aikeem Boyd. Jeannette Herron more than deserved his full support. Boyd never complained when Councilwoman/ City Employee Jeannette Herron carried his weight during most election cycles. The times I volunteered some time to help Herron, I’d ask her where Aikeem Boyd was. The fact Herron mustered 9 votes from her colleagues should’ve been enough to earn her partner’s backing (not to suggest “partner” is the proper adjective here). BIG miscalculation from Boyd in assuming he could do better than 9 votes. I’m positive he wouldn’t have gotten Herron’s vote had he needed one more to reach 11 votes.
The second BIG loser here is Galen Murray who fumbled on his first play as a freshmen. I can’t recall a time when a freshmen Councilmen’s first vote turned out to be a no vote. So much for “CIVICS” . This is the kind of thing one should expect after sitting down with JML and blindly buying into his alter reality.
Winners:
Councilwoman Nelson could at any time thrown in a wrench in the process. Nelson being a newcomer owed no one any loyalty. It’s a good possibility that as an Educator Nelson and Herron had a connection. Had Nelson supported Nieves, the vote would have been 10-10. I hope Nelson scored top Committee appointments and Murray sent to stand in the corner with JML.
I’m sure Maria Pereira was salivating when she uttered the name Jeannette Herron.
Congratulations to Jeanette Herron and thank you to Aidee Nieves for her years of service.
Perhaps Speedy. But the biggest loser or should I say victim of Port’s political inside dysfunctional “disingenuous” game to control the discretionary spending within the budget, which is the fundamental part of city governance, for the most part ,is Burns.
It seems to me he was kicked out for perhaps speaking out on some of the spending and the values that goes with it. IMO.
I could be wrong though. But he just seemed like a rational voice on some of the retardedness of governance spending at the expense of the taxpayers/taxations.
As to the winner, not sure what coded side Jeanette identifies with but it’s fair to say IMO Gamin is more than happy with Jeanette more than Mario. Mario seems like an after thought these days in Port political governance ever since they razed his place in the Port, and he moved to Monroe. Jeanette seemed like a rebranding of the same functionality.
Maria’s initial statement on voting for Jeanette was “the lesser of two Evil is still Evil. ” So based on that, it’s fair to say Satan was a winner. Good Job Maria, 🙂
I say CC is an inside game to control the budget based on Maria’s
claim, “being on the BBOE is not about helping the students and making it better. It’s about controlling the budget. So based on that it is fair to say being on the CC is not about the constituents/residents or making the Port better more than it’s about controlling the city budget and operation and the perks that go along with it.
That is fair to say, is it not People? .
Burn the tapes and free Maria 🙂

That being said, a side note, Moses was a winner and WEEPA was a loser. Based on the nomination game, right CC members. You know what I am talking about. 😊
As to Big Balls Murray, Speedy, Welcome to Port’s dysfunctional governance family. Big Balls is going to fit right in. He is going to be the WEEPA of Blackrock. Good Job Big Balls.
Way to keep Port’s governance tradition alive and bring it to BlackRock. You are as disingenuous as Gen Now. 🙂
Perhaps it was always disingenuous, just more obvious these days
John, always a pleasure to see you.😊
. Try to play nice, peace out. Merry Christmas Happy Birthday Baby Jesus.
The prophet-ish. Burn the tapes.

Burns was not forced out. Both McCarthy and Burns simply burned-out. Had Murray taken the blinders off for a minute. He could have much clearer seen the opportunity to land on Committees which could permit him to better serve the 130th district.
IDK Speedy, perhaps, though I’m betting the forces that “burnt” out Burns and McCarthy is the same forces that gave Big Balls Murray 🙂 those blinders.
Perhaps I got it backwards. It was Maria who initiated this shit show and Murray was just jumping on the bandwagon. Considering Maria could have just voted for Jeanette over Aidee.
That’s why G2 was flustered when he heard her no vote. 🙂 Murray got wind of it and was why he did what he did, perhaps, considering Jeanette didn’t have his vote and Aidee was going down the same why Boyd did. Boyd was Hail Mary deployed after this shit show vote.
Based on G2’s frustration, and Fred Astaire dance across the CC chamber and Big Balls no vote. It would seem Maria’s no vote was an audible. 🤣
Just a theory.
Harvey, based on Martinez complain about her committee assignment this shit show never ends. This is governance. It just rebrands it, repackage it new fresh scent whiff of change. 🤣
P.S Lennie, you don’t need a AS in Early Childhood a BS in Psychology to know putting “motorboat” and “arrest warrant” on the same committee in not a stellar idea, Well unless you want to continue this shit show, freak show circus. 🙂
At any rate, it’s always a please to brush up in the ESL education. Peace Out. Port.
In the spirit of the universal celebration of Baby Jesus Jane. That’s all I’m sayin 🤣

Just consider for a moment the words of a long time observer, writer, and speaker about Things-Bridgeport. This year I was requested by two neighbors in Distict 130 to be the Campaign Treasurer for OneDistrictOneBridgeport, their aptly named organization. My relationships are basically new with each of them but I observe that they enter the City Council processes with energy and enthusiasm. Whatever committee assignments they received, may they serve them well as quality of governance must be pursued with the opportunities offered with new Charter language. My comments to the new CC:
City Council Comments – December 2025
Greetings to each of you as elected representatives for all the people of Bridgeport, twenty individuals in total, and greetings as well as to the entire 150,000 human beings, our neighbors, the public whom you serve. To those returning I welcome you to better governance under the voter approved Charter. To those who are new, I hope you have taken the time to review the Charter document as part of your orientation. It is now a foundation of City regulations and updates the 1993 document that previously was an outdated reference point.
You will see that the opening paragraph of the City Charter is called the Preamble. It sets out the purpose and desire for open and accountable self-governance that includes transparent and honest values. The second sentence is relevant to the intended changes in the new document: “By this action, we wish to secure the benefits of home rule and provide for local government that is responsive to the will and the values of the residents of our City, and strongly affirms resident participation, representative democracy, and professional management.”
Nowhere is there a call to exercise power over the public, but rather a call to the people to become familiar with their rights, as well as duties, responsibilities, and obligations. In a City where elections show that fewer than 10% of registered voters actually exercise their balloting rights, there is much remedial work to be done to remind our neighbors of the meaning of CIVICS. It is the study of citizen rights and responsibilities. I have invited each of you in multiple commentaries during the past year to join in Casual Civics Conversations(CCC) around Bridgeport. Will you join in with that task?
CCC is designed to welcome all folks who have life experience as well as questions about municipal life. They do have the time to attend, to speak, and to be listened to with respect and response to their questions about how things may improve for them and their families and businesses. It is an informal way for you to instruct by your attentive listening to the words spoken with expression and response. Participation in these ‘casual’ sessions without agendas or minutes help you learn and build strong relations. Two years from now, perhaps we can see whether the people voting or participating with boards and commissions has increased. I invite you to fully participate. Time will tell.
Listen,I’m just glad they came to a decision, glad it didn’t need to go around 3 or 4 times..
At the end of the day Aidee,Jeanette,or Aikeem are all qualified.Disheartened to see Martinez complain about her committee assignment,or lack there of immediately, the optics of that sets a tone of resentment right off the bat….I also noticed Joe seemingly wasn’t in such a rush this time which was refreshing…I’d say by 2 more meetings or so,they will all be arguing with each other…
Harvey it shouldn’t be consider complaining, I have dedicated so much in fighting many obstacles, brick walls along with other things as the liaison for the housing authority that it was hurtful to had been taken off. Check my attendance record please. I attend every meeting that the housing authority has had. I fight day in and day out for the needs of the constituents that reside in public housing, whether it is in my district or not.
Jeanette and I have a history, we have done many things together on this council since her election in 2015.
She has won the presidency seat and I will continue working with her along with others. We are a body of 20, not 1.
I will love to sit with you, and show you my track record as an elected official here. One thing for sure Harvey I do the work, despite any negative publicity about Eneida Martinez. I have implemented many ordinances, resolutions, save many properties from homeowners loosing, help the most vulnerable, constantly helping our elderly and veterans. I don’t simply hold the city council title, I work. I am up at the weed hours of the morning dedicating my time to any issues that need attention, as I am doing right now. I am up sending emails to department heads on issues in my district, whether it be blight, abandoned vehicles, policing, pot holes, missing signs, homelessness, families in crisis, and I can go on.
So, in ending due to my passion of many things, I had a moment when I saw that I was removed as the housing authority liaison. It all worked out, and our council president will make adjustments at our next meeting. Have a great day Harvey, god bless. Happy Holidays…
Miss Martinez,I didn’t question your dedication and work ethic on the council,we know you work hard for your people, all I said was I wish you didn’t bring up your objection on committee assignment right at that time, imo it may have been better judgement to talk to Jeanette privately or at the next meeting is all I was saying..hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas & a healthy New Year!
Harry,
I agree. You are correct. Thank you, have a safe and enjoyable holiday.
