The Money Is Gone

From Dan Tepfer, CT Post:

The former president of Success Village, Tyreke Bird, endorsed checks for more than $1.3 million that were meant to pay for damage caused by a fatal fire at the co-op, according to court testimony Thursday.

But those funds, deposited in Key Bank last year and earlier this year, are gone, withdrawn from the six bank accounts before a court hearing began to appointed a lawyer to oversee the 924-unit co-op’s finances, according to court testimony by attorney Richard Buturla.

One check, for $250,000 from the insurance company that was endorsed by Bird was not deposited, Buturla said.

“This is only one chapter in a very bad book,” Buturla, the lawyer representing the city and the town of Stratford told Superior Court Judge Dale Radcliffe during a hearing Thursday afternoon.

Bird did not attend Thursday’s hearing and did not return calls for comment.

  1. The money is gone? This isn’t even money from the complex’s 6 million dollar annual revenue stream. That has been a missaprobated for years.

This 1.3 million insurance money is like a hidden ball trick, for the millions taken/siphoned. They stopped the music and all eyes are on the 1.3 funds.

Jeff, a mess is right. Perhaps the FBI, but it seems they don’t have jurisdiction without a wire transfer. I would think.

Speaking of rocket scientists, Musk wants to get his cars off the ground. Regardless of the origins y’all openly adhere and pay to the same, the God of Abraham. To peace in the Middle East.

  2. Are upi keeping your eyes on the facts of the situation?
    ## None have been forthcoming from local self-governance activity for more than two years. Is that what Success Village By-Laws called for?
    ## Are there other failures of self-governance by the elected Board members? Who cares and what provision in State or Local legal framework and oversight structures has been available to owner/members/folks with equity at stake?
##Over 700 owner/residents at risk with cold weather coming and the City on the hook for fiscal support of alternative arrangements, and I ask again, DOES THE MAYOR CARE? Where is action to appoint qualified residents to the FAIR HOUSING COMMISSION, and will it serve as an early warning system for “self-governing bodies” at Co-Ops and Condominiums who stray off their governance track?
##We have had a legally trained Director of Accountability and Integrity for more than five years on full time service to the City? Has any consideration been given to assigning him to this major problem with looming dislocation and taxpayer expense? What priority assignment is he currently working on?
    ## Relating to the fire in a unit, with two deaths, and insurance benefits from financial service contracts exceeding $1 Million, unpaid to some contractors, and more than a handful of residents financially supported by Success Village management in alternative quarters, and failure to disclose the handling of such funds as a ‘fiduciary’ for the Village: how many regulations, laws, and basic governance issues have been crossed by folks in charge?
I am informed that a joint task force of Federal officials, State legal, and local detectives have been active on this large case for some time. Getting the facts. Lining up the evidence. See you in court after charges are formed as to the most critical issues.
In the meantime, will Mayor Ganim show a sign that FAIR HOUSING COMMISSION enrollment is an important responsibility for him to address? Time will tell.

  3. Not question the FBI’s involvement in this mess, however, there always seems to be a need for a wire transfer or US mail to garner the FBI’s interest, more than the misuse of funds that were not taken/robbed from the bank directly. But I am sure if they want in they will have/find a way. or avoid it. I am sure there’s a whole lot of that going on 🤣

People see what they want to see. 🙃

  4. Maybe Birdie tried to feather away a little money to help him fly the coup before the FBI could substitute the moniker “Jail” for Tyreke…. Looks like he will soon become “Jail” Bird — Ty “Jail” Bird… Unless he is soon able to fly the coup!

But why all of this craziness at Success. It really looks like a much more sinister conspiracy — to cause an abandonment of the whole development — rather than just simple embezzlement.

Could it be that there are much bigger political/$ players that wanted to get their hands on the property for nefarious purposes (wrt the residents being rendered homeless and otherwise severely financially damaged)?! Looks like a major crime against humanity — thousands of modest-income people — by way of ruthless theft and profiteering by persons in authority and positions of financial advantage….

There is surely corporate and political corruption — from fairly high levels — involved here. Birdie and company are very, very connected and have operated the Success BOD as an arm of the local/state political machine for many years…. Politicians and developers were set to profit (reap their reward) here.

The FBI really needs to look at the BOD-political-real estate developer connections in this situation. Something really smells here. (One has to wonder whether some of the missing money/real estate developer money found its way into campaign contributions and politicians’ pockets at the state and local level during the period of operation of the reengage Success BOD — which goes back quite a few years ….) One also has to wonder about how many illegitimate absentee ballots were harvested from Success during past elections — especially the 2023-2024 Ballot Gate rigged election….)

Go to work, FBI! Cleaning up the Success mess might just be one of the keys to cleaning up Bridgeport and Connecticut state politics….
