On August 2, Karen Silvernail will be donating a kidney to her friend Valerie Sorrentino, business manager of LIUNA Local 200, an employee of the City of Bridgeport. Karen is an exercise instructor and personal trainer at the Trumbull Y. After donating the kidney, she will be out of work for several weeks with no income. Friends and family are raising funds so Karen is not financially hurt while giving this amazing gift of love and generosity. To donate see info:
Valerie is Business Manager of LIUNA Local 200 and an employee of the City of Bridgeport, where she and Karen met over 30 years ago. Valerie has polycystic kidney disease, a genetic condition which has progressed to the point where she will be on dialysis by the end of the year without a transplant. Although she is listed on the National Organ Donor Registry, the average wait for a kidney is over 4 years. Karen, by donating one of her kidneys, is giving her good friend a new lease on life.

Valerie is a great person who heads one of the city unions, she has fought long and hard for her membership.
Valerie is another of the strong smart women the Finch administration is trying to get rid of. Even knowing what this woman faces they are still screwing her around and trying to get rid of her.
One has to wonder why this administration is always going after the smart, tough women. Is it they only like guys?
Valerie was the “Go To” person at the Health Dept. Since she got sick, she’s been moved to a cell in the basement of the annex and all of her work has been reassigned. There was a union demonstration about this in front of the annex a few weeks ago. This is how concerned Finch is about his employees’ health and mental health. People get sick and they get demoted.
Finch and his cronies are worse than cowards. They have no souls. That’s why Alanna wrote the letter threatening discipline for anyone who talks to the mayor. Now the mayor can claim sweet ignorance (which isn’t hard for him).
There needs to be fewer Bill Finches, fewer Adam Woods, fewer Andy Nunns and fewer Alanna Kabels in the world and more people like Karen Silvernail. The world would be a better place.
