News release from Mayor Bill Finch:
Tonight (Thursday) marks the opening of the fifth installment of the Downtown Thursdays Free Concert Series, sponsored and organized by the City of Bridgeport and Bridgeport’s Downtown Special Services District (DSSD).
Tonight’s concert will feature a dynamic blend of Latin dance music with performances by Orquestra Afinke and Vinny and Ray Afro-Cuban Latin Jazz.
“Bridgeport is becoming an arts and culture powerhouse in the Northeastern U.S.,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “And, that’s happening because of events like Downtown Thursdays. I’m looking forward to seeing large crowds gathering for live music in our revitalized downtown, which is home to many great restaurants and bars for concert-goers to enjoy.”
This year’s concert series features a new format, which includes at least two musical performances that will extend each event from 5:30-9:00 p.m.
Concerts are held at McLevy Green, which is just a few short blocks away from the Bridgeport Metro Rail Station and Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority. These events are open to people of all ages and the festivities are free to the public.

Has the ‘new format’ precluded our hearing from Paul Timpanelli and Yesteryear this year? Paul has his whip and whistle ready but when the top hat action is over, where will Bridgeport look for ‘doo-wop’ for 2014? Time will tell.
*** I like the Thursday Concerts, Downtown actually comes alive for a few hours after 6:pm in Bpt. ***
Despite the unsettling report, I wish yahooy the best and take this opportunity to nominate yahooy as OIB blogger of the day.
