State Rep. Stafstrom Boosts Burns For State Senate

Steve Stafstrom, House chair of the of the Judiciary Committee, is backing Scott Burns.

For City Councilman Scott Burns to be a threat in the August 13 Democratic primary to replace a retiring State Senator Marilyn Moore he must run up numbers in his backyard turf. That starts with Black Rock his home precinct.

He also enjoys the support of popular State Rep. Steve Stafstrom, House chair of the Judiciary Committee whose constituency encompasses a decent chunk of the Bridgeport portion of the district, hugging the Fairfield line in Black Rock, the West Side and takes in a portion of the lower North End.

The Central precinct is a battleground area for Burns and opponents former Mayor Bill Finch, Trumbull’s Sujata Gakar-Wilcox and ex City Councilman Tyler Mack.

Scott Burns looking for large gains in Stafstrom’s district.

The 22 Senatorial encompasses about one third of Bridgeport, all of Trumbull and southern Monroe.

Low turnout primaries are strange ducks with a premium placed on dragging out friends. All four candidates will spend equally, approximately $125,000 each, most of it padded by Connecticut’s public finance program.

In a campaign news release Stafstrom declared, “Scott Burns is a proven leader on the Bridgeport City Council, and I am proud to endorse his candidacy for the State Senate in District 22. His integrity, hard work, and ability to achieve goals for the community make him stand out among his peers. Scott will be a genuine partner with me in Hartford, where we will work side-by-side to get things done for Bridgeport and beyond.”

Burns, an ex teacher, is leveraging his credentials as co-chair of the council’s Budget & Appropriations Committee where his tenure has held the line on taxes while working to add education dollars.

This is a tricky district to juggle because of its geographic and economic diversity.

Early voting commences on Monday at the Margaret Morton Government Center in Bridgeport and respective town halls in Trumbull and Monroe.

So far the absentee ballot activity has been low by comparison with 283 requests to the Town Clerk’s Office in the Bridgeport portion of the district as of Thursday’s report,

    1. READ THIS FOUR (4) TIMES PLEASE:

“Scott will be a genuine partner with me in Hartford, where we will work side-by-side”.

      “…partner with me in…”

      “…where we will work side-by-side…

Burns will work with Stafstrom only. No mention of the Bridgeport delegation and working as such. Stafstrom dares to tell us where Burns will stand –side-by-side like he was his dog on a collar.

A State Representative with a State Senator in his control.

Howdy Partner.! The White Boys are going for the kill. Both Councilmember; the 9 member Democratic Town Committee, ALL FROM BLACK ROCK) (with one councilmember as district leader), while the other (Burns) makes his move for the State Senate seat. It’s 2008 again Lennie. At least my this makes my favorite White Boy in Black Rock (Jim Fox) 16 years younger.
