The cash-strapped state is considering a proposal to install slot machines in three Connecticut parimutuel facilities, including Bridgeport’s Winners Shoreline Star that features wagering and live simulcasting of greyhound, thoroughbred and harness racing from all over North America, as well as jai-alai from Florida. It’s already wired for slots as a result of the city’s pursuit of expanded gaming, shot down by the legislature, 18 years ago.
State Senator Andres Ayala is among the state legislators calling for gaming expansion as the state becomes surrounded by gambling from border states. Gaming expansion requires approval from Connecticut’s two tribal-nation gaming facilities which currently share 25 percent of slot take with the state.
