Smut Busters Step Up To Protect Neighborhoods

State Rep. Auden Grogins and City Councilwoman Sue Brannelly joined several residents of Black Rock such as Mary-Jane Foster and Stephanie Barnes to urge both state and city legislation to crack down on illegal massage parlors that invite undesirables, attract crime, curtail quality of life and diminish property values. Grogins successfully shepherded state legislation this year that creates stricter regulations and the City Council Thursday night approved a new ordinance that does the same.

  1. Bob Walsh introduced similar legislative language for SOB’s and the plan was backed by Foster. The Council sat on their hands and asses last summer and did nada, zilch and zero on this matter.

  2. Better late than never–success has a thousand fathers or in this case, mothers. Grogins and Brannelly wouldn’t touch it last year, are heroes this year and all with a straight face. It would be throw-up material except Bridgeport now has an ordinance that will regulate and squeeze these businesses out of business. Absent the organization of a bunch of their constituents, hard to imagine they would have led the fight. If only the boys on the Ordinance Committee would move the same ordinance about strip joints. Can’t imagine they are holding it up because, uh, they have conflicts. Can you?

  3. *** As it is now and has been in the past, Bpt’s got lots of fair community ordinances on the books but never enough staff to see violations through ’til the end! One onsite visit followed by a letter hoping for a quick fine payment, then forgotten one way or another seems to be the norm by city inspectors regardless of the particular dept; unless it’s “personal” of course! *** FORGETABOUTIT ***
