Former Congressman Chris Shays reports he has raised more $500,000 including a $100k loan in his quest to win the U.S. Senate seat of a retiring Joe Lieberman. Shays is expected to face deep-pocketed Linda McMahon in an August Republican primary. Brian K. Hill, a Hartford attorney, is also running as a Republican. Democratic candidates include Congressman Chris Murphy, former Connecticut Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, State Rep. William Tong and drug reform crusader Sylvester Salcedo. From Shays:
Stratford, CT – Today Christopher Shays, Republican candidate for the United States Senate, announced his fundraising totals for the fourth quarter of 2011.
The campaign will report total receipts of $522,145. That includes $422,145 from 749 individual donors and a $100,000 loan from Betsi and Christopher Shays.
Shays said, “I’m asking people to join something special – a revolution to get our country back on track and our fellow Americans back to work.”
Shays filed his paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on October 3, 2011, after he finished his work as co-chair of the Commission on Wartime Contracting.
The FEC deadline for releasing fourth quarter fundraising numbers is January 31st, 2012.
Shays will make his formal announcement for the United States Senate on Wednesday, January 25th at 12 Noon at the Old State House in Hartford.
