Daniel Martinez, age 26, a lifelong Bridgeport resident, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center with his concerned family and friends by his side. Daniel was a very spiritual young man who served in various leadership positions among the churches he attended throughout his life.
Daniel Martinez’ outstanding accomplishments: President of the Bassick H.S. ASPIRA Club, President of the CT ASPIRA Student Leadership Council, member of the CT ASPIRA Board of Directors, member of the ASPIRA National Board of Directors, student member of the Bridgeport Board of Education, student member of the State of CT Board of Education, served on the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Board, recognized as the promising male youth of the year by the Latino & Puerto Rican Affairs Commission (LPRAC), Served as a Bridgeport City Councilman for the 137th District, President Pro tempore of the Bridgeport City Council, the youngest member in the history of the Bridgeport City Council. Daniel served in various community committees which served to improve the lives of many in Bridgeport. He served on the political election committees of many local, state and national elected officials. He was a member of the Fairfield County Puerto Rican Parade Committee for several years, serving as the Banquet coordinator and other positions as well. Daniel was a member of the Bridgeport Hispanic Heritage Committee, which works to educate individuals of the contribution of Latinos in the United States. Daniel will be missed by many in our community, he holds a very dear space in the lives of Andres Ayala Jr, Carmen Colon, his brothers Eric & Gian Carlo Amado and Andres Ayala III.
Daniel was born February 7, 1986 to loving parents Alicia (Ramon) Lopez and Felipe (Gladys) Martinez Jr. Besides his parents Daniel is survived by: maternal grandparent Modesta Camacho, paternal grandparents Santa Vasquez, Felipe Martinez, sister Michelle (Julio) Romero, two nephews Jayden, Justin Romero, paternal great uncle Alfredo Martinez, paternal great aunt Nereida Martinez, two maternal uncle Marcelino (Nilsa) Martinez, Eric Cruz, maternal aunt Brenda Cruz, two paternal aunts Elizabeth, Janira Martinez, two paternal uncles Roberto, Wilson Martinez, Godparents Maria & Jose Martinez, special friends Mirna Perez, Olga Alicea, a host of extended family and friends that will keep Daniel’s memory alive forever and ever.
