In a letter to President Joe Biden and Connecticut’s federal delegation, State Senator Herron Gaston is among 12 Democratic Connecticut legislators urging the “imperative need for an immediate, mutual, and permanent ceasefire in the assault on Gaza.”
The lead signer is State Rep. Maryam Khan, D-Windsor, the first Muslim member of the State House, elected in 2022.
Gaston, a city faith leader and executive at the University of Bridgeport who defeated incumbent Dennis Bradley in a 2022 primary, faces an August primary challenge from City Councilman Ernie Newton.
City Council meetings in recent months have been jam packed with sympathizers on both sides speaking during the public comments portion after the legislative body called a ceasefire.
