Reduce The Size Of The Dem Town Committee? Party Regulars Trash Chairman Testa’s Flaccid Proposal

Not a good night for Chairman Testa.

Democratic Town Chairman Mario Testa’s pitch to haircut the political body he leads from 90 to 70 received big blowback Tuesday night from membership that wanted nothing to do it.

The chairman’s rationale – not enough operatives putting the work in, or donating to the party, effectively asking some of them to vote their own demise to provide him more control – crashed to the meeting room floor in the Margaret Morton Government Center.

Surprising that the chairman who provides himself on counting the votes ahead of the votes even allowed a vote. What was the point? To look weak?

It failed overwhelmingly.

In 1983, party regulars voted to increase the town committee from 50 to 90 members, 9 per 10 districts, to bring more people into the tent. It has stayed that way since. Members function to serve as the organizational arm of the party infrastructure, conducting party business, electing officers, and endorsing candidates for public office. They serve two-year biennial terms commencing March in even numbered years. Town committee slates me be primaried for district control.

Testa didn’t do himself any favors Tuesday night by publicly chastising DTC members for not ponying up enough cash for the party coffers. Even some of Testa’s closest DTC supporters were surprised by his gaffe.

The other agenda item Testa coveted passed. Well, sorta.

The state party recently notified Testa that local party rules must be amended to allow long-time treasurer Marie Heller, who no longer resides in Bridgeport, to remain in that role. Testa asked the body to exempt the treasurer spot among all party officers from residing in Bridgeport.

That was not well received either.

Veteran town committee member, former City Councilman and ex city clerk Tom Mulligan proposed a compromise: exempt Hoffman to serve, not the position, so she’s effectively grandfathered in. Treasurers moving forward must be city residents.

Heller has been a valuable party treasurer for Testa, responsible for the intake of fundraising and filing clean campaign finance reports with the State Elections Enforcement Commission.

Losta DTC members are scratching their heads over Testa’s flaccid performance with 10 months remaining on his current term.

    WEEP, since he’s been generous in providing live stream of the Port’s city council meeting, as well as being an elected office who has been pontificating in public meetings taking up space/time for the public to speak to his colleagues during public speaking session. I will engage click count of OIB. 🙂

    Interesting perspective, but I do find his rage hypocritical. I mean, he seems supportive of Mario’s hand pick number 2 on the DTC, Wanda. Who is on trial, captured on tape doing Mario’s crooked/corrupt bidding. As will as aligning with the “Shepherd” Maria, who I believe have censured, chastised, even called for her removal from the CC, and is now part of her “flock” for the replacement of a vacated CC seat.

    I guess when the stars align in Port Politics, shit don’t matter, integrate, just, takes a back seat. 🙂 Good Job WEEP.

    To be fair, I understand where he is coming form, logically speaking. His inner racism exposed itself. Now he has to project, mend that fence like G2 going to Home Depot to garner support. 😂

    I do have to say, while it would have been illogical to have/ask the DTC members to cut itself, the baby in half, Tom Mulligan’s compromise was well play.

    Speaking of cut things in half. Perhaps a way to annualize the Port politics is to think as the Port is whole more than the whole of yourself. Be participants to whole/Port.

  4. Speaking of chutzpah and venti thy rage. What happen people/posters? 74 comments when I started, enrolled and entered the best ESL class ever. Today, 10 years later? While some have departed, passed, perhaps elevated to Nirvana/Heaven/Paradise or descended. Perhaps, reincarnated , a purgatory if you will, of failure, and limbo. For a mercy God, eternity, for whatever reason/sins/deeds seem unjust do to one inability/failure. To be fair/just, time will tell, extinguished the suffering, that is merciful, No?

    With regards to Ctpost and DTC meetings. They should have at least 10 a year, held in each district. Each district leader and membersihp body should be responsible for organizing the meeting place and food/refreshments. perhaps even entertainment the, perhaps. via, fundraiser, perhaps district CC support. 🙂

    The meetings should be source for a gathering of the minds to interact, engage and lean how to better serve their district and their needs, as well as, to enhance the party.

    ( I mean that line of bullshit works for the CC membership body when they go on their junkets to Washington and have to explain why they’re in Capitol taking selfies and dance to the beat. Right Moses of the Port. 🤣 )

    WEEP you know what stands out of you pontificator on social and public speaking at CC meeting? For me back in the days of G2’s come back bid, when you where in G2 camp like many others including your “shepherd” Maria, along with many others who are now openly against G2. Like your pontifications to chastised, venti your rage against G2/Maris and your fellow colleges on the CC. It was asked at a debate in 2015, why would anyone support, reelect a man, G2, who was convicted of corruption, removed from office, sent to prison for kicks backs in the scheme of pay to play, in Port politics as mayor?
