From Congressman Jim Himes:
Each year that I’ve been in Congress, it’s been an honor and a privilege to sit in the House of Representatives and hear the President deliver the State of the Union address. I’ve attended under Democratic and Republican administrations, because I believe that our ability to engage with colleagues on the other side of the aisle is the hallmark of a healthy democracy.
But let’s be frank — our democracy is not healthy right now. From President Trump’s lawless ICE crackdown to his administration’s blatant corruption, this President has shattered our democratic norms and broken precedent.
So I’m breaking my precedent, too.
Rather than gathering to hear President Trump spew hatred and division, I’m skipping the State of the Union this year and will spend that evening organizing with activists and everyday Americans. We’ll discuss how we can bring down costs for American families and restore decency to our national discourse. I hope you’ll tune in to the People’s State of the Union, hosted by Move On. I’ll be speaking alongside Senator Chris Murphy, Senator Ed Markey, Senator Chris Van Hollen, Representative Balint, Representative Frost, and many more.
We’ve listened to President Trump’s prior State of the Union addresses, each of which was light on self-reflection and heavy on disinformation. My colleagues and I are no longer willing to provide this authoritarian President with a veneer of legitimacy by attending and politely applauding. We can no longer pretend that any of this is normal.
The State of the Union should be a moment to honestly take stock of our progress and chart a path forward for our constituents. That won’t be happening in the House of Representatives when Donald Trump takes the podium — but it will be happening at the People’s State of the Union. I hope you’ll tune in.

So, Himes is absolutely certain that the theme of the State of the Union address will be “hatred”???? And Himes would rather widen the divide between the aisles than TRY to see both sides of our national issues and promote UNITY??? If he was the Speaker of the House, like someone else that we remember, would he also go on National Television and tear up the speech as horrified viewers are shocked by the hostility and disunity?
Was it last week that Trump’s Shit came out his Ass for the first time this year?
Lucky for him he had a lot of people like Pavlick to Lap it up!
Good for you Jim Himes!
I’ve voted for Himes in every election and I am disappointed in him.
Like him, I am not happy with where we are. There is ample blame for both Republican and Democratic camps. Thought he would be above this sanctimonious nonsense.
