Public Input Requested For Future Of Old Power Plant Property

The site reuse study will look at short-term and long-term processes, procedures and associated costs for site redevelopment and reuse, and will consider economic viability, community vision, and environmental impacts. The primary objective of the planning process is to create a reuse plan that reflects the community’s values and vision for Bridgeport’s future.

The power plant site redevelopment aligns with the City of Bridgeport’s vision plan, Plan Bridgeport, which aims to make Bridgeport more livable, equitable, and a hub for economic growth. It also aligns with the City’s Waterfront Plan which prioritizes public access to the waterfront.

The reuse study will focus on the Bridgeport Harbor Station, and two adjacent parcels, including a soon-to-be-decommissioned energy facility. The site totals 33.17 acres along the coast of Bridgeport Harbor waterfront, proximate to the Bridgeport Transportation Center and a number of multi-purpose large-scale event spaces, including the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater, and the Total Mortgage Arena. The site is also near University of Bridgeport, Housatonic Community College, and Steelpointe Harbor, a 52-acre mixed-use development, located across the water from the Site. The harbor is also home to a variety of maritime uses within the port, including the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Company, which provides ferry rides between Bridgeport and Port Jefferson, New York.
