Kind of have mixed feelings on this, without the full understanding of the happenstance or at least enough to make a more formed impartial assessment. I stress impartial because that seems to have gone by the wayside in our current politician environment.
Read the comment sections on some of the posts regarding this incident. Not too unexpected for an emotional base driven topic that is highly political in nature. A white cop shooting and killing a black man, shot in the back. (if that’s the case, but on social that was the “discussion”)
I can say both whites and minorities have demonized the police, without a full understanding of the incident.
As well as, both whites and minorities siding with the police, without the full understanding of the incident. (Perhaps it shifts in that, to some extent.)
You had the typical racial white/black racial political position:
A minority, black, saying these white cops got to go. That is nothing but “racial” You will not hear a comment like that regarding Latinos if the cop was Latino. “These Latino cops got to go. I don’t think you would hear any race or creed calling to get rid of their own race, color, or creed they identify with.
So stuff like this tends to be very subjective, in nature.
A white dude showing no remorse for the life of this black dude, just a criminal in nature.
The comments, ”discussion” like this went back and forth, for the most part. Which is generally inherent to the times, to some degree and on some level in everyone, perhaps.
To the point at hand though. How justified was the shooting?
How much did this guy put himself at risk that led up to the shooting and death by evading an arrest, for whatever rationale he had to run?
Did the officer overreach/overreact in the situation that led to the death of this person in trying to make the arrest?
How much is the community going to take into account the task that is asked of them to protect the community in this person’s death?
Will the be fair in accountability?
Is a gun present to justify a shooting, period? Perhaps, Perhaps not. While this question weighs very different from a personal perspective/ideology of Law Enforcement, within or without. As well as the politics of it. But it should be fair to say, it elevates the situation.
Regardless, the politics of this is going to play out significantly in matters like this, particularly in this case where the cop is white and the person who was shot and killed was black.
Sure Porter being the “logical choice” for G2 may suppress the black and brown ”communities” calling/marching on the police station or city hall, calling for his resignation, but he is still view as white.
Latinos marching, calling for Porter’s resignation would create the “optical” divide that would transcend the enemy of my enemy is my friend. (White being the enemy )
G2, while white. A call for him to resign may be out of the political reach without coming off as “disingenuous” putting the carriage before the horse. In the political game you want people to feel you are genuine, for the most part. So placing this on G2, by passing Porter seems disingenuous.
Perhaps pointless, they, blacks already have a black police chief and Chief in the BFD, Superintendent. Politically, G2 will not resign. It will be interesting to see how this lands on Porter’s desk thought if this was a bad shooting. It is his department, not G2s. I mean, it’s not like there isn’t a call for Porter to resign, JS
There is no doubt in my mind G2s whiteness is an Achilles heel for him in Port’s political environment. That’s the nature of the political beast in America’s emotional base racial identity politics, I guess.
Regardless of the fact G2’s “whiteness” though questionable historically, His father being a foreigner of Middle Eastern descent. (I believe) His Italian mother roots, similar to American history, in some regard, with the conquest of the black Etruscans, and it racial identity to Italy and the Roman republic/empire, the Italian people. But that history is far removed from CRT and perhaps forgotten in the American psyche.
That being said, while Porter was “logical: G2, considered white in Port’s racial identity politics where politics never sleeps. Christopher is coming, and I am not talking about Columbus. I would suspect. Though perhaps another day on that geographic history of invading black Muslim Moors
While I lean toward law enforcement, without order, you have chaos, it doesn’t mean cops are on the level and without question, corruptness in the political game. For the most part, they are gangsters in uniform.
The way I see it, you got the cams, I hope, (means I do recall a white cop shooting and old black ladies face over some hot water, that seem to not have on) in any regard it shouldn’t be too hard to assist the shooting.
A fair assessment is going to “subjective” by nature, politically or not.
My assessment without bias based on race, color ,or creed. (nature) and factual evidence.
If the cop shot this dude in the back (as it was stated in the comment section) from a distance, with a real perceived threat, she overreacted and bears responsibility for her actions. (the level of responsibility is also subjective)
I say over react because in such situations adrenaline, hormone, kick in like a any other drug that invades your body. Being a woman pure racial, hatred for a black dudes general don’t reside within a woman, be it white, like a white dudes who has a small penis, base on the “stereo type” of blacks, have big penis. Lets face it, that is the perceive root cause in black discontent,
Though to be fair, she could have be program, converted, driven to such hatred for lack of life. Since I don’t know her, and highly doubt it. I will reserve judgment in that regard.
If this dude and the cop were in any physical contact with a gun was present in hand than this dude’s action contributed to his death and bears responsibility.
By no means am I saying it had to end that way , However, you have to give the benefit of understanding to the law enforcement. This is not the movies, actors slapping on make-up, have stunt doubles, and several takes.
You can’t tell a person to slap on a bulletproof vest, give them a gun and ask them to put their life, family by extension to protect the community, your family form chaos and not expect they are not going to face real life potential harm and death.
I am pretty sure that no Port politicians and all of its corruption, back door/stealing, conniving to siphon taxpayer/ funding, has to wear a bulletproof vest to work. Though, I do believe in Lennie’s book, Mayor Mandanice did. As well as, community activist, or comment section contributor,
The political racial dynamic does change if the cop was a Latino. I would think. SJ
The political condemnation of a Latino cop by blacks puts G2 at farther reach of the racial identity politics game in some regard. But I think that would be a disingenuous assumption to say the least. Why? Because the community doesn’t really care when it comes to racial identity politics. Make no mistake about that and this is nothing but politics driven on many levels.
I say that because how many black and browns have lost their lives in the streets by other black and browns and were just one day a new cycle of lip service that faded away until the next body dropped, unless it has some political attachment to it. Like this one.
By no means am I diminishing the politics of the race game blacks have put forth on this front, Let’s just say if whites put up such a fight, perhaps they wouldn’t have as many whites being killed by cops, that is far more than blacks this days, That too is the nature of the political beast, I guess.
I await for Cam to ponder on.
On a happier note, Lennie, I want a B+ I put some effort in. 🙂
Speaking of the comment section, I think we can thank the Devil for it, 🙂
