News release from Mayor’s Office:
Mayor Ganim joins Chief Garcia to acknowledge the achievement of Tier I Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POST-C) State Accreditation by the Bridgeport Police Department. POST-C State Accreditation is designed to provide Connecticut law enforcement agencies with a process which demonstrates the ability to provide accountability, transparency, and quality services by police officers in the communities they serve.
Mayor Ganim stated, “Public safety remains top priority for the City of Bridgeport and its residents. Joining the State of Connecticut’s POST-C Accreditation program is a testament to our Bridgeport Police Department and their ability to perform under high standards which will shape into lasting practices and positively contribute to the Department’s commitment of serving the community.”
Chief Garcia stated, “This is a very proud moment for the Bridgeport Police Department as we have accomplished a significant milestone. The Bridgeport Police is the largest police department in the State of Connecticut to accomplish this goal. Becoming accredited brings us closer to our mission of becoming even more transparent, practicing best practices and establishing better relationships with our community members.”
State Accreditation Standards guide agencies towards meeting the following goals:
— Strengthening crime prevention and control capabilities
— Formalizing essential management procedures
— Establishing fair and non-discriminatory personnel practices
— Improving service delivery
— Solidifying interagency cooperation and coordination
— Boosting citizen and staff confidence in the agencyThe City of Bridgeport Police Department began the process of seeking this professional achievement in 2017 which began with an application and self-assessment phase followed by an on-site assessment by a trained assessor, and the POST Council review and decision phase. Daigle Law Group was hired by the Bridgeport Police Department to aid in the development of effective and constitutional policing practices which have been uploaded to the City of Bridgeport website where the public has been invited to provide feedback. State Accreditation will require yearly reporting and reaccreditation in four years. Bridgeport Police Department will immediately begin the process of seeking Tier 2 State Accreditation.
I hate to burst your bubble but how do you reconcile this “accomplishment” with the reality of where the BPD is today?
I don’t have a calendar of events to compare reality to fantasy but I just don’t have any confidence with this POST-C rating system.
We had a racist incompetent Chief of Police during this time period but we don’t seems to be penalized for that.
We have lawsuits for discriminatory actions but that is not held against us.
The current “acting” chief has been appointed despite lawsuits claiming she is unqualified.
And the list goes on.
Maybe it’s like the consultants who hire to say everything is fine but everyone knows it’s not
I’m surprised Aidee isn’t there saying what a great job everyone is doing in spite of the fact none of her committee’s recommendations on policing have been adopted.
Exactly Bob. The reality!!
The rest is just blah blah and blah.
Cheers!
Daigle Law Group was hired by the Bridgeport Police Department to aid in the development of effective and constitutional policing practices which have been uploaded to the City of Bridgeport website where the public has been invited to provide feedback. Well, how about posting the study of the BPD that Charles Ramsey who was the former Commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department and he had served as Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia and he became a regular CNN contributor. Bridgeport paid Ramsey $25,000 put we have not seen that report, now how much did the City pay Daigle Law Group?
“We the people” paid for that report as we pay for everything that our government does, at any level. We the people pay dearly for all of “governments” actions, after the fact as well. Some people, like the residents of Bridgeport, pay a whole lot more.
Can that report be obtained through FOI?
Cheers!!!
Bob, you got it right especially when you said, “I don’t have a calendar of events to compare reality to fantasy but I just don’t have any confidence with this POST-C rating system.
We had a racist incompetent Chief of Police during this time period but we don’t seems to be penalized for that.” This process goes back to 2017 and who was the police chief, that’s right the disgrace, felon AJ Perez, was his actions included in the report, hell no. This rating system rates towns like Fairfield and Trumbull with Bridgeport, they are nowhere the same, the racial demographic and population are totally different and those differences are the cord issues in urban cities. What cities in Connecticut have anywhere near the racial demographic that were used in this rating? Where in this rating system are all of racial lawsuits and internal complains against the BPD and the city? How much has the taxpayers of Bridgeport paid out since 2017 for racial issues in the BPD?
The Governor, et al., don’t want Bridgeport, the states most populated city, to have problems that make them look bad or cost the state money, so they whitewash our problems, doing things like giving State accreditation to our unstable, understaffed PD to show that we are really in “great shape” and that things are “looking up” for Bridgeport…
Just more BS to shut us up and keep us in our place… And, of course, our elected officials — Mayor, CC, GA delegation, Federal delegation — aren’t going to take issue with the BS “good news” — they’ll all just line up for a photo-op at the Congress Street Bridge to announce the great progress and accreditation of the BPD, even as plan# 10 in (bridgeless) year 25 of the Congress Street Bridge replacement saga is announced….
Only in Bridgeport!
Happy Bicentennial, Stamford!
Cheers!
