Bridgeport native Germar Terrell Gardner looks like he can still play the line for the Central High School football team but Monday night he met a line of well wishers who honored him for his role as corrections officer Charles Ford in the Netflix hit series Orange is the New Black. Mayor Bill Finch and the City Council issued proclamations to Gardner for winning a coveted 2014 Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by an ensemble at the organization’s gala in January.
If you’ve not seen the series, you gotta check it out. It rivals city politics for pure comedy.
Gardner joined the show last year in what was supposed to be a single appearance. The producers liked what they saw and brought him on as a recurring character. He is the son of OIB friend Glover Gardner.
Gardner was modest in his remarks during the ceremony. “I’m grateful in allowing me this platform … it feels good that this gets noticed. I carry the Bridgeport banner with me wherever I go.”
Sonny, you did good with this young man and thanks Germar for carrying the Bridgeport banner wherever you go and by doing so you carry your family and you need to know Bridgeport is proud of you.
