No April Fools’ Joke: Police Kick Up Distracted-Driving Enforcement

The Bridgeport Police Department will ramp up the enforcement of distracted driving laws beginning April 1, 2026, as part of a statewide campaign for National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

As part of the national “Put the Phone Away or Pay” campaign, conducted in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office, the Bridgeport Police Department will increase patrols and enforcement from April 1 – April 30, 2026.

During this period, enforcement will focus on identifying and citing drivers who engage in unsafe behaviors such as texting, using handheld-devices, or otherwise taking their attention off the road.
“Driving requires your full attention every second you’re on the road,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto. “Even a brief distraction, such as checking a notification or sending a quick text, can lead to devastating consequences. This campaign is a reminder that distracted driving is dangerous, illegal, and entirely preventable.”
Reducing distracted driving is a shared responsibility, and we urge drivers to put their phones down and stay focused so everyone can travel safely.’”

The Bridgeport Police Department encourages all drivers to make safe choices behind the wheel, including putting away phones, limiting distractions, and focusing on the road.

Tips to Avoid Distracted Driving
• Pull over safely if you need to text or make a call. Never handle your phone while driving.
• Ask a passenger to assist with navigation or messages.
• Avoid checking social media while driving.
• Set up navigation and music before starting your trip.
• Use your phone’s “Do Not Disturb While Driving” feature.
• Remember: a message can wait, your safety cannot.

  1. Perhaps it is April Fools, but on a serious note.

    To have the President of Iran urge the people in the US to question its gov’t war motives is something to think about? I have to assume he is targeting that No Kings faction in American society to protest with more fervor, as BLK matters protest against Trump. Though I am not sure if Iran is aware that America is having a Latino immigration crisis, and the black Americans are not signing on to it, per se. 🙂

    Though perhaps urge people around the world to question the Iranian Revolution that ended up with an Ayatollah as the supreme leader of Iran, may be in order. Even France didn’t come up with something like that when they had the Revolution and chopped off their King and Queen’s heads.

    Notwithstanding, there are many Islamic Shia Ayatollahs who are not considered the Supreme leader of their respective nation. It is fair to say it is not about the Ayatollah title per se. However, it can be said in Iran’s case, of the Ayatollah Supreme leader, it is perhaps about them challenging the Saudi Arabia Kindship/Kingdom for supremacy in the Islamic world. per se

    While I am sure there is perhaps a deeper understanding to this “disingenuous” shit show freak show, just like there may be perhaps many of My Bad in those Books of the God of Gariel, y’all can be pointing them out as I do, if you wish. But It is fair to say that relegating Iran’s Shia Ayatollah to the level of Iraq’s Ayatollah or even to Pakistani Ayatollahs is “kosher.”

    Where God is a personal afair, a relationship, to greater understanding, perhaps more. As it should be.

    While I am still confused about the Taliban, you have to say America is pretty fair, considering Saddam was Sunni, and America gave its blood and treasure to free the Shia oppression under him, with the help of Saudi Arabia. As disingenuous as that was. It can be said that perhaps this shit show is not about an Ayatollah per se, considering the Shia in Iraq are now allowed to practice that form of Islamic understanding undepressed JS
