Newton Commences Signature Drive To Primary Senator Gaston

Newton plans his petition drive.

Coming up one vote short at the nominating convention to primary State Senator Herron Gaston, City Councilman Ernie Newton will take to the streets this weekend to start a petition drive requiring roughly 1,800 certified signatures of Democratic electors in the district to face the incumbent August 13.

“They may have blocked me from the ballot but they cannot block me from the people,” says Newton who was one vote shy for the required 15 percent delegate support threshold.

Connecticut’s 23rd Senatorial encompasses about two thirds of Bridgeport and a portion of western Stratford. Newton has until June 11 to submits signatures.

Gaston claimed the seat two years ago defeating incumbent Dennis Bradley in a tight primary on his way to a general election victory.

  1. Why would anyone want to sign a petition for him to be elected? He went to jail for defrauding his constituents. And why would stratford want the reputation of supporting him? This is such a step backwards. And let’s not forget that moses never saw the promise land Because because what he did to the sacred tablets.
