From Linda Lambeck, CT Post:
Peering out from the floor-to-ceiling window in the assistant principal suite down to the pristine Warren Harding High School football field a floor below is like being in a luxury box.
The floor finish is still drying. Wires and cables are still hanging from the ceiling tiles. Some 200 workmen are spread throughout the four-level structure that covers 207,000 square feet.
“The push is on,” said Larry Schilling, a program manager for the construction project that he insists will be ready for occupancy by late August. School starts Aug. 30.
At $107 million, the new school is not the most expensive built in the city–Fairchild Wheeler still holds that distinction–but it may just be the most distinctive.
Full story here.
It was time to replace the dilapidated Harding building. This one looks like a 20th Century Modern airport terminal. Maybe it will inspire students to soar to new heights…………
Welcome to the 21st Century. I think all involved had done a tremendous job. I feel bad for the students that had to spend time in the old building. Poor environment for teaching Students going a full yer missing an Algebra teacher. A week Principal. Honestly! A new clean beautiful environemnt. This will only be a small component in improving the culture of the school. These students need regular motivation from outstanding, successful celebrities, You know like Ned Lamont 🙂 yes- These students need to be taken on day trips , They need to see life outside of Bridgeport, Gun shots , relatives in jail and drugs. They need a fighting chance. I will not blame Arresta Johnson for years of a failing educational system. However, ……… She needs to make serious changes to support her amazing salary as well as her new assistants.
The biggest mistake was not re- naming the school. Tere could have been a beautiful plaque paced in front of the school. Warren Harding? Still shaking my head- People need to let go of the past and embrace an exciting future in this city. These students couldn’t write a paragraph on Warren Harding on Graduation day.
I wish the teachers, staff and all of the students that will be walking though these doors. I am hopeful as always. Economic development hinges on a successful school system and Bridgeport needs lots of work. Money is not the issue.

Sorry for the typo’s
You actually taught in Bridgeport public schools? Unbelievable.
I have driven by the school a view times just to look at it and it’s unbelievable but I have only one problem and it’s this:

Looks like a nice, building. It will be exciting for the students and teachers to start the school year in a state-of-the-art facility in the Fall…
An irony must be pointed out in this election year however: At the “old” Harding, just a couple of blocks away, the students, not so many years ago, had good job prospects — summer and permanent — just a couple of blocks in either direction…. On the site of the new school, as we all know, there used to over 10,000 people employed at good, living-wage jobs… What is the economic fate of the typical Harding High graduate now — brand-new, state-of-the-art building notwithstanding?… (Do our gubernatorial candidates have any thoughts in this regard?! Haven’t heard any from them yet — that aren’t buried in bs…)

Actully I was a substitute in 27 schools in Bridgeport. I have seen it all. I support Charter schools- What is unbelievable is that you are an ass and continue with your ridiculous comments. I was not making a teachers salary and I was rarely in a class 2 days in a row. When I write about the school system you can take it as fact. I do not regret the few years I made poverty to see the inside of the school system. I certainly could have been easily accredited but it is not the career path I wanted. The good news for me is that all of the kids remember me and always come up to me and say hello. That is the lasting impact I have kid. The only impact you have are your nasty, miserable hateful comments. The question everyone is asking is why I am even responding to you on my breaks and there really is no answer except that it really has become tiresome. You do bore me to tears and are not really entertaining . Substitutes in Bridgeport are more like low paid babysitters. When the school system does not want to deal with important issues they use the subs as scapegoats. My dry cleaning cost more than I made as a substitute. It couldn’t ev3en pay my cable bill and yet, I loved dealing with the students and it was a very sad experience watching these kids go to the next grade as ignorant as the one they just passed.
You thought a casino and an amphitheater were going to fix all of that.

Mackey for god sake start singing a new tune. i will bet anything you want that more than 80% of people questioned would not know who Warren Harding was. The name as it relates to the high school is all it is a name that represents 1000’s of kids over the years. I am proud to say my son was one of the supervising workers on this project plus 2 of my grad daauhters go here,
He’s back!!!
Don’t worry, Ron. Shit wipes off.
Thats what happens hen you wipe your forehead
*** Lets hope Bassick will be the next new school in the coming future! However they’ll need a larger site area to expand for parking, deliveries & buses.***
